A truly memorable treat, Penylins Ulster Fry takes some beating. This is a little gem of a cafe where nothing seems to much trouble.
A wonderfully friendly owner provided a warm welcome. The food was traditional Irish and cooked to perfection. We all tried something different and we were all delighted. I'll be eating here every time that I go to Carlisle.
We still visit this place regularly when we have the spare cash and have never once been let down on food quality, price, or service. Not always the fastest but always worth the wait, and always a good chat to keep you occupied.
This cafe is shut. It is no more open, Doesnt look as if it's been trading for a long time, so don't waste yours by walking down to see if it's selling food
My husband and I come here for breakfast whenever we can (which sadly isn't often enough Being from Belfast myself, it's amazing enough to find soda farls over here, let alone the tasty homemade ones you get at Penylins. The Ulster fry is superb- a...true taste of home. Today I opted for a filled soda farl with Irish sausage, fried onions and fried egg and I am stuffed and satisfied! The staff are so lovely, particularly the lady who owns the place who reminds me of so many of my friends' mums -she takes great care of her customers who become friends when they walk through the door. If you want formality, wetherspoons speed, a flat white or a smashed avocado, go away. If you want beautiful home cooked food, personal service, a nice natter, the best soda farls (hell, the only soda farls this side of the Irish sea and the feeling of being part of a family breakfast- get down to Penylins. (On a practical note, they do big portions and it's really cheap too
