What a great little Cantina. This is a real celebration of life in Calabria. The food was excellent and all wines are local. They project onto a wall in the street video of bands playing traditional music from the district. The atmosphere and the service are friendly and it makes for a great night. Don't miss it. What Smudge2014 doesn't like about A Cantina:
The ambience is wonderful the wait staff are engaging and the live music superb but the food here bears no resemblance to tapas. On this trip to Italy we have endured some awful food but this wins as the worse cold Italian food I have ever eaten. Sorry guys may be we were to early wanting to eat at 8.30 pm but that is no excuse for good that is that bad. View all feedback.
This is one my favourite restaurants in the area and we visit every summer. The food is fresh and authentic, the kind of food you would eat at home in Calabria. The fish is always so fresh. They serve local cheese, meats and wine. The setting is so cute, in a little courtyard in the historic old town. A charming rustic Italian dining experience.
We always visit when in Cariati and the owner and staff are very friendly. The gem of this place is it is off the main beat track so it perfect place to go for a romantic evening. The other interesting this about this place is the food. So you normally go to a bar/restaurant and view a menu and order. This place you have only two options Meat or Seafood (mostly sea food) and you just tell the waiter. The result is you get about 4-5 courses or a lot of food for a very VERY good price. I love it cause I don't know what I'm getting but I'm never disappointed. Wine is fantastic.
Gothic cuisine, staff courtesy and welcoming atmosphere characterize this place with rustic features. Very well. often they also organize live music. aircraft
We had two wonderful dinners here! The second night the owner and chef made special arrangements to procure seafood for us. The owner even helped direct us to our hotel and speaks wonderful English. The food is delicious and they made us feel like family. We can’t wait to return to A Cantina.
What an amazing experience! This local spot within the historic walls is only open in the evening. There is no menu, just a list of what they are serving that night. It was 10 euros a person. There was more food than we could possibly eat. Everything was delicious!! As more people arrived, they pulled out more tables and chairs into the street to make room for them. The waiter spoke limited English but went out of his way to please us. This local restaurant is not to be missed!!
