Dropped in on spec after a quick walk around the square ( too cold for outside eating ) great greeting and escorted upstairs to the main dining area. Menu was small with two "prix fixe" options and a few "carte" options .The upside of this place is that it is clearly very well patronised and the food really delivers , my starter soup was tasty and delicious , my wife's salad was declared fist class and the rest of th... What Odette Cousin doesn't like about Le Bistro de Tantine:
I should start by saying that we speak French so there was no language barrier. Monday lunchtime and they were busy but we were seated and ignored. After 15 minutes we asked for water which took an age to arrive. The stimulus for our departure was seeing other tables with later arrivals being served ahead of us.It looked a promising establishment but don't expect to be welcome! View all feedback.
We looked for somewhere with a nice atmosphere and a good menu on our last night in Carcassonne. We found Le bistro de tantine in the main square, and were attracted by the different menu options and the friendly staff. When we first approached them they said they were full and that we would have to wait for the next table to become available - usually a good sign if the restaurant is popular!! They very kindly sat us at a small table for 2 while we bought a bottle of nice wine which was reasonably priced. After 15 minutes, they cleared a table for us and we ordered from both the 16€ and 25€ set menus. The food was tremendous and the portion sizes were just right. A very enjoyable experience and great service throughout!
We went there for dinner and even though every seat was taken the service was really good and the waiters knew basic english (so you don't need to worry). Food was fantastic and filling and the chips were homemade All in all a great experience
Fantastic service and great food, great value with the 16€ menu ambiance perfect. Pannacotta was out of this world

Recommended by our host and not sure why?? We booked a lunch time table for 1 pm as it was semi-market day but some items on the menu were already sold out. The duck was very dry & tasteless. Mozerrala salad very average. Lots of other restaurants around the square offering better.
