What Marcel Bouvet doesn't like about Brasserie Le Donjon:
Nice welcome with complementary olives and 2 small glasses of Kurds then pretty much downhill thereafter. Starters: goats cheese and aubergine millefeuille was good, onion soup was very poor (full of soggy lumps of bread, tasteless). Mains: entrecôte steaks were pool quality, lots of gristle, tasteless. Very well located, the frame is very pleasant. The dishes are correct.
The cassoulet was very disappointing. Dried out. Couldn't be eaten. Tomato gazpacho was very good. Sea bass was good. Service was attentive and apologetic about the cassoulet.
The food is fine, the service pleasant and the price is good. But they did something I just hate, they took my used knife and fork from the starter off the plate and put it back down on the table for me to use with the main course A chef slaves to create dishes that taste unique, why would you start that taste experience with the leftover bits of your last dish stuck to your knife and fork? How hard is it to wash up a few knifes and forks? When you are paying €33 for a menu, surely you can expect clean cutlery for each course?
Excellent New Year dinner, delicious menu and attentive service in a calm unhurried informal atmosphere. We will return.
