The atmosphere at this restaurant is fantastic! The service was excellent and the pizza was delicious. I especially enjoyed the historic building.

Despite the wonderful atmosphere, beautiful building, and excellent staff, the food's horrible quality, taste, and appearance cannot be overlooked.

We took a road trip to Carbonear today and had a wonderful dining experience at The Stone Jug. Situated on Water Street with a beautiful view of the water, this restaurant has a rich history and character. With the windows and doors wide open, we enjoyed the fresh air coming off the water. It was the perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends or family over drinks and food. Although the menu is focused on pub fare, I decided to try the vegetarian pizza and was pleasantly surprised. The pizza had a light, airy, chewy crust (cooked in a wood fire oven) and was full of flavor - a perfect size for two people. Paired with a Mill Street Organic Lager, it made for a great Saturday evening meal. Our waitress was fantastic - warm and friendly, making us feel very welcome and comfortable. I would give The Stone Jug 4 out of 5 stars, but deducted a point because they have limited vegetarian options (fish and chips, salad, and veggie pizza) and the building is not easily accessible for those with mobility challenges due to the lack of a wheelchair ramp.

Didn't get to try the food, waited an hour for a spinach dip with no drinks for 45 minutes even after asking for just water. Tables next to us got food and drinks even after being seated after us. Server paid no attention and when asked about the spinach dip, only went and talked to her friends at another table. If you're looking for service probably wouldn't go here. But the inside was beautiful to look at because we had nothing else to do but look around.

My sister, mother, and I decided to take a small road trip out of town to visit Carbonear during the holidays to try out this respected pub-style restaurant. The interior is beautiful, especially considering it is a restored building in a not-highly populated region of the Avalon Peninsula. The service was quite slow, but there was a lot of time to wander around the upstairs areas and check out their nice washrooms : I ordered the Lamb Burger $17 which was an Newfoundland-raised lamb with feta, arugula, onion, and red pepper. The toppings and bread of the burger were alright, but the burger itself was pretty darn tasty. The dish came with cajun-spiced potato wedges as well, but they did arrive quite cold, as the time to be served took a while. I want to give this place a 3/5, but considering the surrounding competition and sheer beauty of the interior, I'll bump it up to a weak four. There were also Christmas carollers inside which was nice :
