This is a nice cool please where you can enjoy a dinner or just have a nice pizza or a drink contemplating the plaza in Caraz city listening to music and chat with friends.
My husband and I spent three weeks in Perú, 3 of these days at the Cafe de Rat Lodge, and it was the highlight of our trip! Aidé and her daughters, Mariana and Luciana are the most gracious hosts. You are so helpful in organizing tours, taxis, night buses, etc. In addition to their generosity, they also offer the best food and restaurant ambience in the city. The terrace overlooking the Plaza de Armas was a popular meeting place for us, but we also loved the cozy atmosphere of the dining room. I would return to Perú to visit Aidé and stay at home!
We came for a pizza with my friends and also got some cheese and olive starters and a bottle of Blackandino wine from the regional renowned winery called Arandino, which makes Dulce and Semi-Dulce berry wines. The dishes and drinks as well as the service were perfect, the owner was very friendly and helpful even in answering several questions about the region. I liked the design of the place that was very Christmas, as we came in December. I recommend sitting on the balcony overlooking the main square. Caraz won't get too cold int he nights and so it's good if you bring a jacket.
This place, right off the plaza, has pretty good, not great, thin crust pizza by Peru standards. It has a limited menu. Not much other than pizza for dinner. Can sit on outside balcony above a noisy street. Friendly service.
We had the veggie pizza and I believed this would be a safe choice since the vegetables would be baked. The pizza came warm (not hot) and the cheese and crust had not browned so I have concerns the veggies may not have been sterilized by heat. The indoor seating area smelled like fresh paint so we sat on the porch overlooking the road. The road was quite noisy and smelled of car exhaust. We were the only patrons in the restaurant.
