Fat Bird Cafe - CAPEL

I always used to love the great selection of salads with yummy dressings at the Fat Birdie - lots of choice presented in the display cabinet. Not sure if I was unlucky this visit but there was nothing nothing to see on the salad front....More

A fantastic little cafe tucked away in Capel (next to the IGA) ... lovely food, great coffee and terrific, friendly staff ... worth a visit ... will definitely be heading back there soon.

We live in the area and quite often like to visit Capel for a lunch or breakfast. We have seen the Fat Birdie Cafe but can never find it open when we want to visit (Saturday afternoons or Sundays) but I was in town during the week and decided to give it a try as the sign says "Voted best in area" or something like that.The service was friendly and fast but the food on the menu is very basic and not cheap. I also had breakfast recently and again friendly and fast but very basic and not worth the $19 for a couple of poached eggs and half a grilled tomato on soggy toast. Coffee was very average!

Dropped in today whilst out for work. I only grabbed a takeaway coffee but it was excellent. The lady serving (who I'd guess is the owner) was absolutely lovely and even prioritized my order so that I could get going. The food looked great and the place was packed with people who were obviously locals/regulars. Just a really nice atmosphere. Reckon I'll stop in again for a coffee tomorrow... enjoy the novelty of friendly service with my coffee (at a reasonable price) before I head back up to Perth! ;)

I wish I had more time to eat out because the Fat Birdie offers great food and coffee at a reasonable price. My salad was delicious and the coffee with it was hot and fresh. Service is always great there and I love the option to sit outside in a shaded area. Will be happy to go back when I have time. Incidentally Friday night takeaway curries in winter are also awesome
