I did not expect to have one of the 2 or 3 best in a railway station restaurant in the Maremma, but there you have it. This is not fancy cooking. Antonietta lovingly recreates her mother's home recipes (sometimes, she says, with her mother's help), blending the family's roots in Calabria with their adopted Tuscan home. Fantastic artichokes and potatoes, delicious spaghetti with clams, wonderful spinach and ricotta ravioli, outstanding local prosciutto, absolutely perfectly pan seared spicy peppers. Our neighbor was eating what looked like a perfect Neapolitan pizza I would have leaned over and cut myself a slice if we hadn't just eaten the best meal of our weeklong trip. This is comfort food. Just what your imagined Italian grandmother might have made you if you hadn't needed to imagine her. If the weather had been warmer, we would have sat outside looking at the mountains, instead we sat inside and watched the trains pull in and out, and chatted with Antonietta and her two brothers Dino and Massimo who collectively run the restaurant and bar. I'd make a special trip back next time I was in Tuscany. After all, I didn't get to try the pizza.

It is located in the middle of Capalbio Scalo a couple of miles from the Capalbio beach and 8 miles form the middle age Capalbio village, an enchanting rock that dominates Maremma.

Prices were in line with the local standards.
