Located about a brisk 20 minutes walk from the Hotel de Ville along the main road toward Mandelieu La Napoule (not the sea route) across form...the College Internationale is where this friendly well run coffee shop exists. It literally is like a “Cheers” cafe! The very able proprietor, Olivier, who has spent time in the LA area (hence the name Cafe Pico), knows just about ever patron who comes in. Even if he doesn't know you, he or is able and attractive colleague greets everyone with a friendly “bonjour” and a “bon journee” when you leave. If you happen to arrive as a stranger, you will leave as a friend! However, the best thing about Cafe Pico is the menu. Each day Olivier prepares a plat du jour home cooked for about 9 to 12 euros. In addition there is a nice menu of salads, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. The coffee, of course, is made to order. Anything can be eaten in or taken out. It you can't see a sandwich you like, Olivier will be happy to make it for you if he has the ingredients. The surprise this year is that Olivier has done an extensive remodeling of the cafe without loosing its former coziness and charm. I you are looking for a nice lunch or need a coffee break or just want to see what French conviviality is like, it is well worth a trip to Cafe Pico. Too bad he is not open in the evening!
