We stayed here for a week in July The Roca Mar is a small hotel which has far more character than many large chains. Sun loungers were arranged on many different little terraces on a steep cliff down to the sea. There is one...small salt water pool which has a guard during busy periods, but you also have use of a small pool belonging to one of the sister hotels. We were here on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfasts were good and catered for mainly continental clients. The omelettes were particularly good and filling. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean and beds were comfortable. Rooms included a small cooker, microwave, kettle and cooking implements. All staff were very friendly. Our Air con broke down for hours and we were allowed to sleep in another room whilst spare parts were found. This hotel is one of four which adjoin each other. There appears to be a renovation of all f the hotels going on. The rooms at. Roca Mar have been recently refreshed decorated. We were a little concerned before travel at some of the reviews we read, I think these must have been written prior to the refurbishment. We had an enjoyable stay and would happily return
Caniço is not in the main city of Funchal so let’s be clear from the start.. you’re staying in a hotel centric neighbourhood outside the biggest town on Madeira… but I had no issues with this hotel, and in fact, actually really enjoyed the stay…...A spacious room with spacious [SEA VIEW] balcony, small kitchen area as part of the room/studio… the hotel staff were AMAZING! Absolute above and beyond in terms of service… we booked our covid tests for return home on their suggestion… done in the hotel, for each! So explain to be BoJo why the F this is back in the UK! The hotel offers a Monday to Friday shuttle into Funchal for each, breakfast was part of our booking and worth it for the tiny difference in cost… all you can eat buffet!! Location wise is great, rooms are good… it’s not so quit yer moaning! You get what you pay for… outdoor sea water pool was good, loungers are great, the views great, local bars great… seeing England lose to a Italy Priceless!! I would recommend and will certainly be back! Only downside is as follows: my room just off the main reception has a leaky shower that likes to flood the bathroom… but we had towels to soak it up and they dried on the balcony… and praise the good lord for the air con! Thanks to all staff… a great hotel!
Very expensive at each and food was disgusting. Clearly catering for cheap all inclusive holidays. Went first night and never went back
Lovely hotel on the rocks, close to the sea. Access to the sea by steps and also lots of sunbeds on terraces and a salt water pool. I was in a new building, so my room was spacious, comfortable and extra clean. Breakfast was adequate, to be enjoyed on the large terrace. Staff were efficient and helpful. A great hotel if you want to swim in the sea.
All very good full of hard working staff not least waiters for drinks . Close to Capital with access to return Coach to Funchal for small booking fee . Also , good local bus lines indirect and express to Funchal .A high standard of room we requested and received top floor and sea view and meals indoor and outdoor brill setting perhaps a few more lights on the terrace but that is a detail .Food had wide choice and was good quality every meal Sea easy access most days and sun bathing terraces plus choice of indoor and outdoor pools on site and 2 sister hotels . Something for everyone on 7 night entertainment 3 hour sessions with small breaks so has to be good value .In summary we received warm welcome and no effort was spared to provide great hospitality at all times so we would deffo return .
