After a quick trip to the States for Thanskgiving, we were craving local flavors and tacos! We were not disappointed with 3 Reyes Taqueria, it totally fulfilled our cravings. We ordered the lechon tacos and tortas, relleno negra tacos, jamaica and rootbeer. The meats were all delicious. The habanero salsa was great. We will deifinitely go back. View all feedback.
I left in Cancun for a year and a half, in that time i worked in Riviera Maya, i love eat regional food, and these place has the taste and the traditional food-prep of the mayan gastronomy, they are located y a few places or addresses all with the combos or single order, very recommendable, if you are not familiarized with the spicy or hotness sauces, you could try with careful, please, if you feel jejeje or not feel your tongue do not drink beer... drink something without gas (sodas) that's the worst thing to do... eat a spoon of cream or sugar, maybe a dash of salt down your tongue. Anyway, the three options of tacos lechon (simply and non hot baby pig oven cooked with spices), cochinita (soft pork oven cooked) the addition is the purple onion with habanero (easy with these, please, check the note before), and the relleno negro, (this is a kind of mole, or combination of spices non hot spices) bon appetit!
So, before leaving on my trip, checked all of the restaurants in Cancun for who was serving Cochinita Pibil but did not find any. Once I got there, asked the taxi driver at WalMart to take me to a place that served Cochinita. He took me here and what a find! Couple of points . . . 1. Cochinita is only served from 7AM to 12-1 PM or until it runs out. 2. Sunday is Cochinita day in Cancun so if you 're going to go, go early as most Mexicans eat cochinita for their breakfast/lunch. 3. Getting there. You have two choices: Take the 2 bus to WalMart and take a taxi for 70 pesos from the strip, it will be 290 pesos 1 way. That said, its a small to moderate place. You place your order at the counter up front which lists three menu options: Cochinita, Lechon Al Horno (Young Pig), or Relleno Negro (turkey/dumplings in black sauce) which you order as a taco, torta, or by the kilo. You take the ticket to the cooks out front who prepare your order. Comes with Cebolla Rojas (pickled red onions) and habanero salsa. You can then go inside, order your drinks (coke or agua fresca), find a table, and go ahead and eat like a king or queen This is all locals! There is no English spoken here but the points I listed above should help you through. There were no Americans on the both times that I visited. This is a truly Mexican restaurant if you are looking for the real thing. Enjoy!
