I only managed to try the popular Vietnamese restaurant, Tu Do, in O’Connor very recently to the chagrin of my foodie friends. Located at the O’Connor shops, Tu Do was not hard to find and filled with diners. The restaurant was a lot more modern than expected – I loved the dark timber floorboards. It took a few minutes to get some service as there was only one person working the floor. The menu had Vietnamese staples such as pho (starting from $12), bun cha, and com tam, as well as other items more common on a Chinese menu such as satay, sweet and sour, and black bean dishes. I noticed a garlic rice option which I haven’t really seen anywhere else besides Filipino restaurants. I’ve been told that the fried chicken wings were a must-eat so I made sure to order it.
Had lunch here today with my family for the first time and fair to say WOW the pho was amazing, the broth mixed with the tender beef was just Devine!!! Quick service mixed with friendly staff made it turn into a great lunch. Would go back for sure.
Tu Do is a little O'Connor delight. The food is always fresh and flavoursome and priced reasonably. The Pho is light and refreshing and I find them to be very generous with the meat, it's also always very lean! The restaurant tends to be pretty packed most of the time and is fairly squishy.. there also tends to be a screaming kid, so not recommended if you're after an interrupted chat.
Absolutely brilliant pho! I had the rare beef, my sister had the chicken. Light, delicious and hearty all at the same time. We'll be back with friends!
Perfect Vietnamese. You can't go wrong with this Canberra institution. Whether you want a steaming bowl of Pho, some peanut beef or, as we discovered last time, the crispy goodness that is their fried, stuffed chicken wings, you can get it all at Tu Do and you won't have to spend much either. Plus service is super speedy. Love it for a quick weeknight catch up with a friend or two rather than a big group but I'm sure it could do both.
