Went to ANU for a meeting and dropped by this quaint little gem. Rabbits (adorable!) all over the lawn -- literally everywhere! Excellent coffee. Friendly service. A bit off the beaten track if you aren't going to ANU but well worth a stop on a lazy day for a pleasant break. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Ivy & The Fox:
The first time I went here we waiting over 15 minutes for the start to bring us menus then another 20 minutes to order after trying to signal the staff countless times when walking past and the food took another 50 minutes to come out. I understand places can be busy but it really comes down to having attentive staff I wouldn't have cared about the wait for the food because it was great. Second visit walked into the... I don't often give this high of a rating, but the Beef Burger I had for lunch at the Ivy was exceptional.
I have read the very mixed reviews of this place in retrospect. I had possibly the best wagyu beef burger ever today. Seriously. Without doubt my partner and I had the same meal and had the same experience. It was amazing and the tiny side of chips good also. On a perfect Canberra autumn day sitting outside was grand. I hope the next visit is as good...
My wife and I recently dropped in on Ivy and the Fox while out on a Saturday morning walk in the beautiful grounds of the Australian National University. I hadn't eaten there for ages but I'm glad we stopped for breakfast. They are in Old Canberra House,a lovely building that's among Canberra's oldest; but the setting is really the expansive patio with spendid views through trees down to Lake Burley Griffin and across to the Brindabellas. Service, coffee and food were all very good. I had Spanish eggs on spelt, which came with an excellent chorizo and my wife had a tomato, avocado and fetta mix also on spelt. We were on foot and it was a weekend; be warned that parking at the ANU is awful during the week, Ivy and the Fox might also be busier weekdays with ANU staff. But in nice weather at the weekend it's place with a lot of charm set among the trees. Delightful.
I made a reservation for a work breakfast and arrived to find disorganized staff and no table reserved. Despite the restaurant not being full, it was frustrating to have emailed them and received a reply only to not have a table ready upon arrival. Our waitress seemed flustered and it took some time for her to set up our table with cutlery and menus. Most of us enjoyed our breakfasts, although one member of our group received a different portion size of the same meal. The coffee was consistently lukewarm and the unusual sugar didn't quite satisfy our sweet tooth. The lack of smoothie or fresh juice options was disappointing, with only orange or apple juice available. The venue itself is beautiful, especially with the cozy fireplace, but the experience was let down by the disorganized staff and subpar coffee.
