Only travelers with relatives in the village or nature l... read more We were in the small village of Campora, Italy. The town 's population, never large, has shrunk to 350. Only travelers with relatives in the village or nature lovers (it is situated in the Cliento National Park) find their way to this mountain top. Therefore, it was no surprise that our party of 7, none of whom have ever been in this area, were STUNNED to be treated to a meal, mid day, unannounced and as the only diners in the restaurant, that was of Michelin 5 star quality! Each course was more delicious, more exquisitely seasoned and presented than the previous. Every element of the meal was either grown or produced on the property. The aperitifs and wine flowed throughout the meal as did conversation about our mutual astonishment at happening on such a gem. The restaurant is owned and operated by LOVELY native Camporese who recently returned from Switzerland where they lived and owned restaurants for many years. The building looks relatively new, is a charming southern Italian architectural style and the setting, amazing!!! The interior of the restaurant is very tastefully decorated and immaculately maintained. This would be a perfect venue for a wedding reception, family reunion or a reason to escape for a gastronomical retreat. We routinely paid twice the price we were charged for the same type of food (but of lesser quality) everywhere else in Italy during our 2 week trip. However, we would have willingly thought it a bargain at 4 times what we paid. You might say we give da Mario the highest recommendation possible!
