**Dining and Lodging: A Mixed Bag in Camperdown**

Nestled in the heart of Camperdown, the local dining scene showcases ups and downs. While some diners lament the descent of an iconic pub into a gambling-focused venue with inadequate food options, others appreciate the charm of historical accommodations. Patrons find comfort in simple yet clean lodgings, often with high ratings for service and value. Despite intermittent restaurant closures, some visitors enjoy satisfying meals when open. With a recommended alternative nearby boasting lively ambiance and excellent meals, it’s clear that while the food may falter, the hospitality and historical richness of the area remain strong draws.

This is a wonderful old historic pub. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, with a shared bathroom that is clean and well-maintained. The rooms are located on the first floor, accessible via a beautiful staircase. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed due to a lack of staff, but it's still worth a visit if you're in the Camperdown area. I stayed in a small single room, and while the bed was cozy, it suited my needs perfectly. Overall, I'd rate the rooms a 4, the service a 5, and the location a 5. Definitely great value for your money!

Now just a pokies joint and no longer a cosy country pub. They don't even serve meals or run a bottleshop anymore the new owner seems focussed on gambling revenue. It's incredibly sad when you consider the impact of gambling addiction on rural communities. Thankfully the lovely Hampden Pub down the road has a great vibe, good meals and an excellent beer garden! Safety: Not safe if you are at risk of a gambling addiction. Food drinks: Food no longer available.

I 'm reluctant to share my 5 star rating of this hotel because I 'm really tempted to keep it as 'a best kept secret '. But in the interests of sharing the bounty, what a truly wonderful establishment. First of all, the staff brilliant! The accommodation, would rank with any of the high 4 star competition. And at half the price, for a queen suite overlooking the main street with tea and coffee plus a kitchen with multiple breakfast options available. All inclusive. Spotlessly clean and beautiful Victorian architecture.
