Friday night in Camogli is busy and the top restaurants are fully booked. Thankfully Primula made space for us. That says a lot about their servie mindedness. They have nine or ten tables inside but many more outside. It was mid April and it was too cold to eat outside, but when the weather allows it must offer one of the best outdoor views in Camogli which is not short of beautiful views. Primula faces the public beach in Camogli, and the main pedestrian street in between is always lively, convivial, and always friendly. If you want to make a proposition of marriage to your beloved, and you like showing off, this is the spot for you! There is even space for you to perform a song and dance number, if that is your penchant. The suppe di pesche was a rich and generous collection of clams, mussels, langoustine and big chunks of the catch of the day. My wife had the spaghetti ai frutte de mare and it was mainly filled with clams, so I gave her some of mine. By this time in our vacation, we know the Cinque Terre wines are all good so we ordered two glasses and leave the selection to their recommendation. They have interesting local desserts, but we didn’t try them. The music is focused on 80s hits by the likes of Madonna and Michael Jackson. I get the feeling that they have been running the restaurant since then, so they have their tradecraft worked out to a tee. Budget friendly, family friendly, dog friendly. A nice bunch of people that makes dining accessible and hearty. The decor is cosy. No need to dress up. You can’t go wrong here.

I am Italian, but am writing in English to warn people. This is a tourist trap; expensive, not very good and the waiter was obnoxious. I was the only person in the restaurant speaking Italian that I could hear. Dreadful experience, look elsewhere.

Food is decent, but the service is glacially slow.... the Tagliata was over cooked and full of gristle.
