We stumbled on this on our way back to our hotel from Oxford street and so glad we found it. The pie was gorgeous with chips and oven baked beans, I was in heaven. Will definitely try it again. The staff are great and the atmosphere is good and the prices were good as well. View all feedback.
What Emma Lloyd doesn't like about The Windmill Public House:
The pie crust was very good at this restaurant, but the suet pudding was not as expected, which was disappointing as I had been looking forward to trying the steak and kidney suet pudding. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was pleasant, but the overall experience was let down by the disappointing pie and frozen chips. View all feedback.
On my recent visit to London, I was naturally craving a traditional meat pie. My friend and I did a quick search and found The Windmill. I was impressed with the selection of pies and the food was absolutely delicious. We were able to sit outside on the rooftop patio, and enjoy some drinks in the sun.
No surprises, great steak and kidney pie. A bit confusing multi-lingual service, but understood each other in the end. No wonder the place was packed full.
Thanks to research we were led to the windmill pub just off Oxford Street. What a great find. Downstairs was completely full with such a great vibe not to mention the glorious smell. We were lucky enough that it was a five day and we’re taking upstairs to the outside garden. So quaint and unique. The service was great. We waited a while but belief it to be worth it and it sure was. We had the steak and mushroom pies and a chicken and leek pie and a steak and kidney pie. Best pie we have ever had. Not a crumb was left. Look forward to returning. Well worth putting this on the top of your list. Especially on a cold day.
I had an excellent lunch at the restaurant, enjoying the delicious oak-roasted salmon pizza and meatball and ham cannelloni. The meal was complemented perfectly with a large glass of wine. Overall, it was a very satisfying dining experience.
Located not far off Oxford street, we visited here to fulfil one of our biggest ambitions while in London- eat a good homemade steak and kidney pie. We were not disappointed. The Windmill is ranked as being amongst the best pie houses in London- and justifiably so. It was delicious and was washed down with a few pints. Atmosphere was good in the pub, and there was a constant flow of people in and out. Try to avoid sitting near the door in the winter months though; it was a bit chilly, a problem of there own success perhaps. It's a good city pub, and I highly recommend heading here to tackle one of their pies.
