A group of us had lunch at this bright, clean and cheerful restaurant. The owner gave us his full attention. The food was simple, fresh and everything tasted great. There is not a lot of ambiance but it is very clean, bright and comfortable. I would recommend it; especially for lunch and will go there again, myself. View all feedback.

I first came here after a 20km walk and I was EXHAUSTED, which only made the food tastier. I was introduced to Shish Taouk here and it is far and away one of my favourite Middle Eastern dishes, it is simply exquisite.Had it again last night (a year later) and it was just as good, if not better! Plus, the proprietor was awesome, very friendly and helpful. Mix in the wonderful tea and "Eau Claire", (a pancake filled with a type of cheese, it seems, with minced pistachios and drizzled in a sweet sauce, possibly a clear honey) and it was a lovely little treat.Good location too and with a ton of TVs on, you can watch whatever sport that is on. Cannot comment on the shisha, however, though every other table (5 of them) that was occupied, was enjoying it.
I have been coming here for quite a while now, since they opened quite near to my home. Soby's immediately replaced my previous shisha spot, as I love the more relaxed vibe, and you can converse without struggling to hear over the music. I would say the demographic is a bit older then many other places, so it is not your typical shisha bar, but more of a restaurant and cafe atmosphere as well. For me that is preferable, but for anyone looking for a rowdier crowd or louder music would be better off to look elsewhere. They have a good variety of flavours, and the owners have some nice suggestions as well. The food is delicious, I usually get the Ful, which is beyond words! A really filling bean dish to eat on your own, or you can share it as well, as it comes with pita. I have tried most the veggie dishes on the menu, and they are all tasty, but the ful really stands out, and it is actually rather hard to find in Calgary, and even why I try to make it at home it is not quite as good at Soby's. I usually have tea when I go, or once in a while coffee, but my go-to is a pot of mint tea.As for the prices, I find them to be reasonable for 17th ave, you can get middle eastern food for better prices in other parts of the city, but to have the relaxing atmosphere and 17th ave location its well priced. It is also quite spacious inside, so you are not sitting with your table stacked up against the next group. The owners are very friendly, provide good service and make you feel welcome. One of the many reasons I keep coming back!
Crisp, clean setting with great Middle Eastern food; served with by the owner, with a smile and a joke. Plenty of parking on side streets. Food came quickly and tasted healthy and flavourful.
Lots of people rate their shawarma by quantity rather than quality. This place makes the tastiest shawarma chicken and beef in Calgary. Clean friendly and quick service. Their portion size is just right so that you can enjoy a few pieces of their authentic baklava. My go-to place for lunch dinner or late night snack.

It has a cozy and homey atmosphere, especially when it gets busy. You can see people playing games, drinking chai, smoking shisha, and hanging out. The couple who run this restaurant are mostly sweet, although the man can be grouchy and impatient on occasion. This has only happened 2 out of the 5 times I have been there. The hummus is really tasty, but the yogurt dip leaves something to be desired as it is quite plain. Despite this, I would still recommend this place because it offers reasonable prices for its location on 17th Ave. I enjoy it as much as Deagla on 17th Ave SE and 51 St.
This Lebanese restaurant is excellent and is one of the top 3 Middle Eastern eateries in the city. The food is always fresh and delicious, the place is always clean, and the staff (who are also the owners) are excellent. If you are in the mood for lunch, the shish and shwarma are must-tries - they are not the typical greasy Donair found at other places, but instead, they are crisp and fresh. The other items on the menu are also excellent. I highly recommend trying their tabooli salad, which is unique as it contains almost no grain and is one of the best I have ever had. If you find yourself in the uptown 17th area, this restaurant is a must-visit.
This shawarma is different from what you typically find in town. While Cedars Deli also makes a good chicken shawarma, Soby's version has a superior taste with fewer ingredients and a reasonable price. During my most recent visit, my sister and I ordered two chicken shawarmas, 4 warm vine leaves (which was a nice surprise), and an order of Baba Ganoush with pita, all for just $30. We left feeling full and satisfied. The Baba Ganoush at Soby's is fantastic and definitely worth a try. It alone is enough reason to make a return visit. If you're looking for a simple and affordable option for a delicious sandwich, I highly recommend Soby's. While I may be a bit nostalgic, I truly believe that their shawarma stands out as a unique and flavorful choice compared to other similar restaurants. Overall, a yummy experience at Soby's!
Great food. One of the best (if not the best) middle eastern food places i've been to in Calgary
