Meats on sandwiches are thick cut rather than shaved or pulled which makes for an interesting meal as you try to bite through a cut which may a bit of fat or gristle. Sandwich bread is just that, toasted bread, instead of a bun. Good barbecue sauce if you like Tabasco sauce. Prices are kept low by serving your order on paper plates and by hiding the dining ware.

I had the chance to introduce my grandchildren to Shemwell's and its delicious traditional food, and they really enjoyed the nostalgic experience. I just wish they were open on Sundays again, as that’s when we typically visit Cairo, and I miss enjoying and bringing home meals from Shemwell's. This is truly one of the wonderful aspects of Cairo.

We waited a long time without being attended to, and our server was quite unfriendly. I ordered the pork sandwich, which came on toasted, soggy white bread. There was a lot of fat on the meat that I had to cut off. I only managed to eat half of the sandwich, and the BBQ sauce left much to be desired! I should have complained but didn’t. We paid our bill and left without leaving a tip.

I was a little concerned because the other participants were all around 5 years old and had been dropped off by their parents, while I intended to stay. However, Aaron and Amy were completely supportive of my decision.
