I found Captain Cook's Diner while walking down Sheridan Street on my first evening in Cairns. There were quite a few customers, so I figured it would be worth trying. I certainly wasn't disappointed: battered Mackerel, lovely chips and a choice of salad.A perfect meal for one and very reasonably priced. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Captain Cooks Diner:
Went there last night very hungry. A couple had nice crumbed fish and chips and said so when I asked them. Our battered fish was oily with crystalised texture and it exploded when I put the plastic knife to it. The chips were a mix of brown and white which appeared to be new chips combined with old as we had a family order. View all feedback.

Ordered my spanish mackerel for fish and chips. You can choose salad for extra healthy meal. Would come back if I have the opportunity to visit Cairns again someday.
Delicious food, generous portions, & a very reasonable price. Fed a family of 5 for 2 days- that's how generous the portions were. Will definitely be back when next in town.
Ate here twice during our time in Cairns. Your fish is cooked to order (grilled/crumbed/battered) and you have a choice of five salads (garden, mesculin, greek, coleslaw and potato). You can eat in or take away. Price range for emperor, chips and salad under $15.
Picked up a couple of pieces of crumbed mackerel and chips. Very nicely cooked - the crumb was just right (not too thick). Good, basic fish'n'chips.
