This open air restaurant has top notch servers who keep this busy restaurant running smoothly. The food we had was quite good. I had kangaroo that melted in my mouth, my daughters had crocodile and wallaby that was beautifully presented. The desserts feature dessert fruits and were tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant! View all feedback.
What Trisha Harvey doesn't like about Ochre Restaurant & Catering:
We had the tasting plate but not matched wines. Whilst the flavours and tastes were different but the total outcome was a little disappointing. Service was attentive without being intrusive. View all feedback.
There was something for almost everyone at Ochre Restaurant in Cairns. They offered an excellent seafood and native game food mix, so our craving for kangaroo, tuna and wallaby would be satisfied. As a starter, their Australian Antipasto with emu wonton, smoked kangaroo and smoked crocodile was perfect. It was a first-class dining experience.
We watched a tv programme where John Torode met the owner of Ochre Craig Squire 8 months before come to Australia on holiday. The ingredients are locally sourced and is all fresh. We ate the bush tucker meal trying wallabies, crocodile and kangaroo - we also had deserts and the meal was exceptional. The ambiance, the waiting staff the food every thing was perfect - great value for money and suggest you try this restaurant when you are in Cairns. Thank you so much.
I came here on the Urban Adventures tour and had a tasting plate which was big enough for dinner (I'm 6'2", 85kg and play lots of sport). I can't remember everything that was on the plate but the barramundi was delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection and looked amazing on the plate. Service was good, too, and the location is awesome, on the pier.
We had big expectations which unfortunately didn't match the food we received. Our shared entree sized antipasto platter was presented beautifully but was incredibly bland/lacked seasoning. Our entrees were lovely - beef cheek ravioli and the quail dish. But both were Luke warm and the quail could have been mistaken for chicken if it weren't for the size. Our mains were the most disappointing aspect, although they came out hot, the lamb dish was tasteless - lamb tasted like watered down meat. When we ordered our striploin we were not asked how we would like it cooked and when questioned later we were told it is cooked medium rare unless we ask and were told by the cashier our waitress should of told us this when ordering. - both The lamb and striploin dish were half eaten. Small details definitely compounded and unfortunately for us tonight there were too many small issues that made our overall dining experience negative. We wish Salt and pepper shakers were on our tables to give all our meals more flavour. And when addressing these issues with staff both when they collected our unfinished meals and when paying we were met with condescending answers. If looking for true Aussie flavours we would suggest going to Nunu's. The meals are the same price and are phenomenal.
Tonight, my wife and I dined @ochrerestaurant.... and boy they did not disappoint. Ochre has a fantastic range of Gluten Free meals covering all aspects of their diverse menu. The staff were exceptional, and our waiters understood the importance of Gluten Free requirements. If in Cairns, and you want to dine out in a really nice restaurant I cannot recommend Ochre any more highly. To me 5 Stars ⭐️
