I didn't eat here. I only enjoyed una caña under the orange trees.
Once in a life experience. Brilliant cook, creative and traditional. As an appetizer an ice cream flavored potato, then comes the main dish, a special fish, for you invented from the cook, accompanied by a very fresh tortar of chicken, perfect for the summer. The waiter was so friendly, he wanted to give us more and more food from the other tables. My only regret is not trying the dessert.
I don't know why the reviews are so bad. Good setting, good service and good food.
The smallest dish of caulk, or that I believe. quality reasonable price. correct product first care.

Love the surroundings of this place. The food is fine but without finesse but it fits the pricing. The service was fine and friendly. A good and clean restaurant but for me not really one to come back to.
This restaurant is set back, off the main road passing through Cádiz, in a quiet corner. Although situated next to other restaurants, Mesón Cartuja catches your eye owing to the flowers growing up the building and the well laid out tables. The staff are very welcoming and having been there on two previous occasions, I was impressed that the waiter recognised us. We went with the intention of having fish and had excellent prawns in garlic sauce for a starter (gambas al ajillo , and Sea Bream (Dorada for the main course. A word of warning is that the bread provided automatically with the meal will appear on your bill and any side salad you may order is very expensive (salad was €7,50 and the mixed salad we ordered came topped with tuna not ideal if any of your party has an allergy or doesn´t like fish! The grilled and fried chicken both consisted of brown meat (not breast as might have been expected . The menu is however very varied and caters for all tastes. A meal for 4 came to €100, including starter, main course, desserts (which weren´t badly priced and 2 drinks each. If it wasn´t for the pleasant setting, the attentive waiter and appetizing food, we would have considered this very expensive. Unfortunately it´s not a smoke free zone either. People on accompanying tables were provided with ashtrays and smoke wafted over throughout our meal, being contained under the overlapping parasols.
We stopped here for lunch with our tour group. We had three tapas Jamon, Anchovy and also Paella. The food was very good as was the service. Only concern was the price of the dishes including the bread and also the drinks.
Unfortunately (for us) it was Cruise Ship Day in Cadiz and so everywhere was packed. We were making our way back to the car park as we had given up finding anywhere to eat. Up a little side street and pleasantly located in a plaza we came to this restaurant. It was in the sun and the tables looked OK with a few available tables, Service was poor and unhelpful, we only got to pay our bill when we got up to walk away. The food was average and also overpriced. Definitely a bad choice by us.
Stopped hear for a drink, we're glad that is all we had as we found it rather expensive for what we had, lot's more to choose from in the area, try those.
