Pleasant atmosphere with a bit of history and the bookcases to lend a historical feel. Fine if you are staying in this part of town but no reason to go out of your way.
Great resturaunt for looks and style. 4 of us chose the menu del dia but as it turned out some dishes were not available. (I find this quite often) The most attractive dish that 3 of us selected, sorry! What we had tasted very nice but again the food arrived (Spanish frio) so back to the micro wave with three plates. I had finished mine when the 3 returned. I visited the loo and would you believe it plated food for service was sitting on the counter right below the a/c fan. A bit more attention to detail and it could be excellent. They best get busy sorting.
This restaurant struck me as a little different to others in the city. The interior is a bit more modern and it is decorated in light and bright colours. We were seated without delay and the waitress was friendly. The choice of dishes is varied and the portion sizes were very generous. We had a mixture of dishes plus a beer and wine and found the cost to be very reasonable. I have since recommended 1812 to others visiting Cadiz and they also had an enjoyable meal.
On 7th February 2017 we had the menú del dia al fresco. The food was great, especially the hearty tomato soup. Service on that day was a bit tardy but we allowed for the fact that we were dining outside. So he still got a tip. The following day we remembered how good the soup had tasted and decided on a return visit. On arrival we instantly ordered the soup. 30 mins later, no soup had arrived. When we eventually got the attention of the waiter, we were then told there was only one soup left. While still on our starters the main courses arrived. The waiter only referred to one of us (husband) and just plonked the other plate at the side of the table, going cold. We were really taken aback by this behaviour as we had never experienced such deplorable service and attitude from a waiter on any of our many travels. Needless to add there was no tip forthcoming this time. To be avoided!!
The food was great, but the various dishes arrived at different times- there was no reason for the difference as the two cold mains could have been held back while the hot main was being cooked. When I queried this politely, in Spanish, the waiter was extremely rude about me to my Spanish friend. I have had bad service at this restaurant twice and will not be going again.
