My cycle ride today out of New Norfolk, Tasmania started up Saddle Rd – only about a kilometre, but the gradient got up to over 20%! Then there was another eight kilometres of climbing with gradients mostly 7 to 18%. Coming down the other side didn’t add much to my morning as it was on a gravel road with a howling head-wind, and the temperature was about 12 degrees. Just as well that I was wearing my merino tops, beanie, rain jacket and full-finger gloves. So by the time I’d done 30kms, I was happy to stop for morning tea during a rain shower. Lazy Teas at Bushy Park had a deal on plunger coffee and scone with cream and jam, for $8. Commonly, cafes serve cream that has come out of a pressurised canister – light and fluffy. So you need to put the jam on the scone first. If you try and put the cream on first, the jam will slide off or just displace the cream. But the cream at Lazy Teas is the real thing, with almost the consistency of margarine. And the scone was freshly homemade. So if you’re going there (which I recommend if down this way), put the cream on the scone first.
High tea there today great location great hosts and great local food worth the drive to bushy park well worth it
David was fantastic, the food, the wine, the company, the lovely atmosphere, and the friendly greeting. I will definitely make an effort to come back. Thank you.
We celebrated Christmas lunch at Hawthorn Lodge with our family. The food was delightful and the service from Marie and David was outstanding. Despite only being the two of them, they did a fantastic job. It was a hot day in Tasmania, but they made our experience enjoyable. Thank you, Marie and David, for a wonderful day. We look forward to returning next Christmas for lunch. Be sure to check out their Devonshire High teas as well.
