Was Eatmunchlove at Tiny Kitchen a mag?
Hello friends! Normally, we visit Beard Papas or the Ki Tea House in the area, but both were crowded, so we opted for Tiny Kitchen for a quick snack. What Cynthia S dislikes about Tiny Kitchen:
Since we were only in for a snack, we opted for the bubble waffle priced at just $3.50, which is more affordable than most places around. However, we had to wait about 10 minutes for our order because the bubble waffle maker wasn't on. When it finally arrived, the waffle was not very crispy on the outside, which detracted from the crunchy texture that makes bubble waffles so delightful. Additionally, it felt quite ho... The worst shredded potato I have ever had. The taste was very off putting and too sour. With those seeds that numb your mouth. First time I did not finish my favourite potato dish. The beef noodle was just average. I would never come back.
Food is simple but delicious! I took two people here and they love it. Bubble teas are also delicious, they taste like they are steeped enough and not too sweet.
I really wanted to like this place. Sat down went through the menu and ordered the curry beef on rice while my friend ordered the mapo tofu on rice. Her meal came out first and after about 5 minutes I was still without any food. Keep in mind that at this point there was only one other table with a couple finishing their meal. I looked over the counter to make eye contact with the waitress who then checked to see what the hold up was in the kitchen. Never really found out, but it arrived in about a minute. The food was nothing to write home about (or photograph) but the portion was decent. While eating, the tables next to us were being filled with customers, while the other side of the restaurant (not that big) remained empty. When we left it looked like everyone was crammed into the corner near the kitchen. One thing I appreciated about this spot is the artwork on the wall. All created by one artist (whose bio is proudly displayed next to the kitchen) Though nothing extravagant, it brought a friendly and warm vibe to the environment. If I'm nearby, I'll probably wind up going to Kamamarui for the ramen instead.
Tiny Kitchen looks to be a small family run business. They have a large menu with dishes as well as a dessert menu. When I went, they had sold out of their waffles for some reason, so we didn't order any. My friend ordered a kimchi hot pot and a shredded potato dish to share. Both of them were delicious. I ordered the sweet and sour fish. Can't say that I was impressed as the fish was pink in the middle and gooey. When I brought it up, they said that the fish is already cooked and is just heated up again when they serve it. I asked them to remake it and they did, but the same issue occurred. At this point, I was just really done. They basically couldn't (or maybe wouldn't? do anything about this fish, so I just ate around it. Flavour profile of the sauce was average, more ketchup-like than anything. Fish that didn't have that gooey middle tasted like the fish had gone bad. I wouldn't get this dish again. The reason why it's three star vs a two or one star review is because they tried. The other dishes were also fine, so I'm assuming that it's just fish dishes that aren't the greatest and that's partly on me for ordering it. Would come back to try a hot pot or other dishes if I'm ever in the area again, but wouldn't order anything with fish in it again.
