This is my go-to spot for delicious baos. I love the pork deluxe and BBQ pork delight the most. Prices range from $4.25 to $2.75. We live in Ontario but whenever we're in town, we make sure to stop by and grab a couple dozen to bring home and freeze. It allows us to enjoy them until our next trip out west. The location is convenient, right across from Metrotown, with meter parking available right out front. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Bao Place:
Not what I expected out of a bao place. Service was rushed, and the bao was not at all what I think of when I think of bao. Filling was runny, but the breading was too wet. Overall not impressed, would rather go to The Boss Bakery in Crystal Mall tbh View all feedback.
Ordered pork deluxe, bbq and belly belly.Pork deluxe is just so nice! I got it from shop to home and microwaved for 20 seconds. Nice and warm.Bbq was a little bit salty, but was okay! I love them!Belly belly was just so-so. ?Staff was really kind tho?
My wife and i had an appointment near metrotown mall so we stopped in for a take out lunch. my wife had the beef and pork and i had the chicken and beef 2 buns each. they were quite savory, tasty and good. the buns were perfect. counter service is friendly and helpful.
This is a small shop located on Kingsway, just across from Metrotown. As the name suggests, they specialize in steamed buns, which they offer in about a dozen varieties. I've sampled their BBQ Delight, Buttermilk, Taro, Pork Deluxe, Curry Dynamite, and Belly Belly Pork buns, as well as a sample of their Chili Oil. Their buns, although a bit flat-looking, are nevertheless still soft and fluffy; the fillings are also tasty, and I quite enjoyed their chili oil. All in all this, is a spot that I think is worth a visit.<br/ <br/ BBQ Delight $3):<br/ 4/5<br/ This was filled with ground pork in a bbq sauce. The bun looked a bit flat in appearance, but was actually quite light and fluffy. The pork was tender and juicy, and had a nice bit of sweetness.<br/ <br/ Buttermilk $2.50):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ The filling was actually more custard-like, and contained coconut. It was on the sweeter side while the coconut provided a great fragrance.<br/ <br/ Taro $2.50):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ The filling was quite creamy and mildly sweet. I did find the flavour here to be a tad subtle/mild, but it was still tasty.<br/ <br/ Pork Deluxe $3.75):<br/ 4/5<br/ This was filled wiht ground pork, sausage, egg, water chestnuts and other ingredients. The pork was very tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. The chestnuts provided a great texture while the egg provided a nice creaminess. <br/ <br/ Curry Dynamite $3):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ This was filled with beef. The meat had a nice bit of heat, although I didn't get much fragrance of the filling.<br/ <br/ Belly Belly Pork $3.25):<br/ 4/5<br/ This was filled with pieces of pork belly. The pork was very tender and juicy. I did find it to be a tad on the underseasoned side.<br/ <br/ Chili Oil:<br/ This provided a really nice fragrance, richness as well as heat, and was a nice sauce for the bun to be dipped in.<br/ <br/ Summary:<br/ Food: 3.5/5<br/ Price: 3.5/5<br/ Service: N/A<br/ Overall: 3.5/5<br/ Recommendations: BBQ Delight, Pork Deluxe, Belly Belly Pork
Bao Place is a tiny shop that opened up last year located near Miss Saigon, across the street from Metropolis at Metrotown. They seem mainly geared towards take-out orders but they do have a few seats inside. They have a very limited menu set. I ordered the Pork Delux $3.25), Curry Dynamite $2.50), and BBQ Delight $2.50).
I have been curious of this place for quite some time, as I live in South Burnaby area. I finally visited this place one afternoon, and the server greeted me nicely. I asked whether they still had all of the items on the menu, but at that time they had no taro bun left.<br/ <br/ I decided to buy 6 buns: 1 Pork Delicious, 1 BBQ Delight, 1 Veggie Devine, 1 Buttermilk, and 2 Red Bean. I have tried the BBQ Delight and Buttermilk, while my father ate the Veggie Devine.<br/ <br/ Overall, their buns are good. They are soft and puffy. The stuffings are generous; while the Buttermilk is so-so, the BBQ Delight is really good for a person who has a sweet tooth like me. My father, who mainly eats vegetable-based food, said that he liked their Veggie Devine.<br/ <br/ I recommend this place as if you live around Burnaby and crave for some good, home-made buns.
