Have eaten here many times since this restaurant opened over a year ago. The food is always delicious and the service is very efficient. It is a very popular restaurant especially on the weekend evenings so reservations are recommended or you could wait up to an hour. There's a reason why it's so popular, the good is great. Lots of parking on the street is a bonus. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Nao Sushi:
I have been visiting their Kingsway location for 15+ years (at least 10+ times a year). While service has been on and off, their food has always been strong (even though slightly declined over years: especially compared with the time when they first started with the box sushi place: was a sensation). Today I visited their new Coquitlam location for the first time, but, it was a shock. How should I say? I almost wanted to sue this restaurant for poor quality (incredibly low quality: sushi was all rice with miserable amount of ingredients). Don't be fooled with the name of the restaurant. This restaurant will ruin the reputation of "Nao Sushi" (the brand image that has been developed for many years and with tremendous efforts). I am not sure whether the owner is aware of this sad situation.
We have ordered take out and also had a dinner at the restaurant. The quality of the food is very good in both cases. We order the take out House Tray, combination of different sushi rolls and nigiri. The portions are generous. When we ate in, we had a special roll (BC roll topped with spicy tuna), the yam and prawn tempura, which was excellent, and smelt karaage, which was a little "fishy". Eat-in service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry.
Good place, everything is fresh and the rolls are good. Service is a little slow but on the day I went it was pretty busy so it's understandable.
NAO Sushi was a chosen spot for lunch yesterday. The restaurant opens at 11:30 am, we arrived about 11:40 am - a few tables occupied - by shortly after noon, the restaurant was very close to being fully-occupied.What we (daughter and I) ordered and shared: our order came with a large pot of hot tea, two bowls of miso soup, a good-sized dab of wasabe, and a 'tin' of pickled ginger, which had already been placed on the table (nice touch!!). - deep fried squid (ika karaage) - very tender, lightly-battered, body and tentacle pieces -- yum! - assorted sashimi (14 piece) - the pieces, w/shredded daicon and lettuce, arranged in a 'boat' presentation -- the fish sweet, and fresh-tasting. - noodles (via a seafood yakisoba - w/ebi, hotate, ika) - served hot - noodles and seafoods quite nicely-prepared, tender, not over-cooked, and the sauce light and flavourful -- tasty! We enjoyed our lunch at NAO Sushi -- service was good, and what we chose was quite well-prepared and presented, and worked well for our lunch in this rather active nearby neighbourhood.
