Jane's is, well, plain. But I like it that way. They've done a facelift and updated the menu but kept the appeal of the old style diner and the basic and ever so affordable breakfast that brings people in droves. They also have a benny (haven't tried it) and something delicious sounding called Chicken Laska that is a favorite on their menu board. I know I'll be going back and not just for breakfast! What Avis Cronin doesn't like about Jane's At The Heights:
The burger I had was pretty good. It's under new management and has some potential. The young server was polite and attentive. They need to pay attention to the details like cleanliness as my table wasn't very clean. I hear the breakfasts are good. View all feedback.

Ok, so for those of you who don't know a Banana is a Canadian born (or raised) Chinese person (yellow on the outside, white inside.) I know, politically incorrect. But I am one so it's ok for me to write this.My son and I stopped in on a Sunday at lunchtime. It took us a while to stop in to this restaurant because it is has a very underwhelming street presence, even a little sketchy looking. but appearances are deceiving. This place is really good!!Menu: Chinese favourites, diner style dishes, good breaky choices, a smattering of Thai. Everything is very very reasonably priced. We ordered wonton noodle soup w/ bbq pork, spring rolls, Heights burger, and Heights Chow Mein. We really enjoyed everything. Portions are on the large side, quality of food is way better than you would expect, Chinese food isn't greasy, and no MSG (important for me, I'm allergic).Service: Cheerful and efficient, what more do you need for a casual meal?Ambiance: Old school booth seats, a little worn but gives the place a retro feel. Otherwise it's a little "plain Jane" (ha ha) inside. Maybe not a place to come if you've got your fancy pants on though.Value: Amazing value for the quality of food.Location: Very convenient on the north side of Hastings 1 block west of the new Shoppers. Lots of parking in front and on the side street. You might miss it if you're not looking for it though. This is a great place for a casual meal when you and your dining companions want different kinds of food. I saw an eggs benny pass by and it looked good, for all you non-vegans out there.
Great spot for breakfast. Nothing fancy. No hype. Good service. Good food. Just an honest diner to start the day.
Ever since the new owners took over last year Jane's has been a consistent go-to for better then average cheap diner breakfast - actually, the food is very good. I go often. I go alone, with friends or with T. They have current and old newspapers to allow for the quiet devouring of information while opening neural pathways with your coffee. I used to just go just for breakfast when I needed to satisfy my bacon cravings, but have more recently tried both lunch and Thai menu items and agree with previous reviews the Thai food is excellent. I have yet to be disappointed in any meal, often I am more then pleasantly surprised.Note: they are a family run business and are closed on Tuesdays.
Been here a few times for breakfast and it has been excellent. Great service. $6 for a full breakfast. Can not find that anywhere these days. Real fresh cut taters and not frozen yucky hashbrowns. Free WIFI.
