This restaurant is located on a farm where most of the ingredients are produced on the premises. They even produce their own wine but also have a good wine...
I had a reservation here for lunch and was apparently a few minutes late. (I was actually bang on time for the 1300 -1330 slot) The waiter/owner came out of the restaurant like an over zealous security guard to challenge me, turn me away and see me off before I could even set foot on the premises. The idea that I might be hungry or that he might offer something to eat wasn't even in his mind. These people exist strictly for their own convenience and the food may well be very good , and the restaurant well attended, but looking at the faces of all the diners there I didn't detect much joy....I wonder why! I frequently used to recommend here to my hotel guests.....no more! I especially recommend a trip to Spain to self educate about how to courteously treat people who want to eat.
We had the most enjoyable Birthday lunch in Ferme de Janou. From the very first greeting by our host we felt welcome and relaxed. We chose to eat outside as did all the other diners. It was a pleasure to sit in the garden surrounded by the countryside beyond. Every table had a large parasol creating enough shade for comfort. There were two options of the set menu: at 23 and 28 Euros; both included healthy salads to start with and hearty second courses. All dishes were beautifully presented. We had chicken in morel sauce, mixed grill and cassoulet between us, and were delighted with our choices. Wine by pichet was very good value, and artfully presented desserts finished the meal nicely. The charm of our host/proprietor made the whole experience special. Combining lunch at Ferme de Janou with a walk to the Roman bridge (starting from the vultures observation centre) makes a fantastic day out in Bugarach.
So pleased that we were recommended this restaurant. It may be in quite a remote location but well worth the visit. It was a Sunday lunchtime and they obviously like you all to arrive at similar times, ie 12 12.30. We were treated to an eight course meal which included 6 fixed courses with options for the main and the sweet. All this for 35.5euros per head. Wine very good choices and even able to buy bottles at normal prices. All beautifully presented and very tasty and imaginative. The waiter could not have been more helpful and also spoke English. Cannot wait to go back in the summer with friends and sit outside as the views are glorious.
We visited this marvellous venue for my daughter’s 20th birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed every single moment. The service was perfect our host could not do enough for us. The setting was divine an outdoor table surrounded by a beautiful garden with the stunning backdrop of rolling hills. And the food was out of this world so much and so magnificent! I will most definitely bring family and friends to visit here again!!
