What User doesn't like about Cafe Arroyo:
Really charming Cafe shop in the Sofitel Hotel. Had a late lunch there. Could book charges to our room. Unfortunately we thought you could use American dollars in Buenos Aires. But no luck needed Argentian or credit card. Gustavo the bartender shared his Negro receipt with me and Cintia our waitress was very helpful. Every spoonful was delicious View all feedback.
I had the pleasure of staying at a great hotel in Buenos Aires; the Sofitel. The hotel is in a beautiful part of the Retiro district. And the best fringe benefit in addition to the superb staff was spending a few hours at the Cafe Arroyo Bar in the hotel on a rainy Sunday afternoon, chatting with Gustavo Mazzini, one of the senior bartenders. Gustavo not only speaks fluent English, he's a seasoned mixologist who's spent time in New Orleans tending bar. As we discussed the hotel cocktail menu, we got to talking about local Amaros', some of the drinks he made in New Orleans, and some of the particular tastes of Argentines (and Portenos). Then he made me a drink off the menu called the "De Maria" which is the best way to drink Fernet (another very local thing to order). I took a photo of the recipe for two reasons: 1. Its a drink you need to order at the bar 2. It showcases great personal touch! Gustavo had the concierge personalize the dink menu for me as a souvenir. I would recommend staying at the Sofitel, spending an hour or two at the Arroyo bar with Gustavo, and then walking over to Floreria Atlantico for dinner and few more drinks. That is a great night in Buenos Aires.
I am finally getting to my trip reviews for my Argentina trip. This was my second time being in Buenos Aires. This trip we stayed at the Sheraton Liberatour but we like to walk the city and I remembered that this hotel was close to the area that we were walking. When you walk up to a place and there is a small sign out front that describes the Cocktails that the bar offers, then you know that you are in a "real cocktail bar". The bartender, Gustavo, was knowledgeable about the drinks , entertaining and the best part was that my drink was spot on. Gustavo gets a bonus star for great service and for speaking English , which I am embarrassed to say that my Spanish is limited.

Uncomplicated but very good menu with excellent service. We were staying in the hotel and needed a quiet night in. Nice wine list and good food.
