Great food but beware if you make a booking for a special occasion. We booked over month before our planned celebration and booked a table for 1030am. My wife and I dined at The Anchor on Sat night for the Mexican themed night. Whilst overall we enjoyed the night as we were with friends we hadn't seen in some time I feel a number of areas for concern may have contributed to the night being well below amazing.Firstly we were seated outside which is fine however being winter and especially a very cold evening we literally froze. There was 1 gas heater much further down and 1 odd ceiling heater that could not be felt from where we were sitting. We asked one of the waitresses if there were any other heaters and were sadly advised no. Secondly we felt the overall quality of the dishes given the $45/person cover charge was ordinary. The sangria whilst complimentary and a nice touch was more like cranberry juice with red wine (still drinkable though not exactly sangria without fruit in it). The Mexican rice was one giant clump of rice all stuck together that you could lift out of the bowl in one go with a fork and was relatively tasteless. The salad was fine and enjoyable and the plate of different meats wasn't too bad though very oily. The low light of the evening by far was the tortillas. To honestly compare them to anything I would have to say they were like thin cardboard. Not one person in our group was able to eat them nor had any more than 1 bite. The desserts were tasty enough and were probably the most enjoyable course of an otherwise average meal. The young waitress that looked after us was friendly and probably saved this review from being 1 out of 5 though more attention needs to be focused on clearing tables. Nothing from all of the courses had been cleared when desserts came out and we were still trying to use our cutlery and plates from other courses for our desserts. Coming from 17 years in the industry I can see where they were going with the idea however the entire evening lacked polish and execution. Friends had raved about the breakfast here but the dinner sadly didn't deliver unfortunately. Most likely would not return.
Food was adequate. Ordered the big anchor breakfast. Everything was cooked but nothing was seasoned.Service was below average. We found out there was a 40 min wait after another customer was yelling & complaining about it.After waiting an hour for our food to be brought out we pointed out that other tables nearby had received their food and they had arrived & ordered after us. We were met with a bit of sass & the manager chose not to come out and acknowledge our concerns. We were given a round of coffee after we suggested that it would be a nice gesture on their behalf .As an overall experience, I would not recommend this establishment to a friend, family member or stranger. I am a pretty tolerant, easy going person but the lack of communication by the staff was disappointing. I really hope this improves for the sake of your continued business venture.

It was a very busy Sunday morning so we didn't mind waiting an hour for our food. However, half an hour after our food arrived we attempted to order more food and drinks only to be told we wouldn't have time as they needed us to leave because they had booked someone for our table at 12.30. If there's a time limit, patrons should be advised at the time of booking. Our party included guests who had travelled for 3 hours to join us. The waitresses were rude and unfriendly.
ALWAYS a lovely place for lunch. The veranda offers a choice of sunny, shaded or filted sun positions and inside for the cooler days. Great food, service and staff
