Fortunately I was wrong.La Union is a very good restaurant. The food, first of all, was well cooked and superbly presented. I started with a shared platter of Romanian dips (eggplant salad, zacusca, etc) and followed that with the quails with potatoes. For dessert I had papanasi (a kind of cream and jam filled doughnut). There was a good selection of bottled wines on offer, both Romanian and imported, and carafes of good house wine for about 3 Euro.I can't fault the service - our waitress was attentive, filling glasses when they were low, checking in from time to time to see if everything was ok, explaining the food choices to us if we were unsure of something. Attentive without being obtrusive. This is the kind of service that you quite rarely encounter in Bucharest, even at higher-end restaurants.The decor is tastefully elegant, the toilets are clean, the music is suitable for that style of location (mostly music from the 1920s and 1930s) and played at a level condusive to conversation.Total bill for three courses for two people with wine and a couple of long drinks each was about 270 RON (60 Euro). Not a 'budget' restaurant by any means, but still well worth the money.

It is a stylish restaurant in the house of one of the largest writers in Romania. It has a high variety of meals, and the cook is a master. At my time of visit it was not crowded, so it is quite good for a private dinner. The music is not loud and it consists mainly of Romanesque songs of the early 20th. century (very beautiful). However, prices are somewhat high compared to other restaurants in Bucharest.

Luckily, I was wrong. La Union is a very good restaurant. The food was mainly well cooked and super presented. It is a classy restaurant located in the house of one of Romania's biggest writers.It has a high diversity of meals, and the chef is a master.At my times of visiting it was not crowded, so it is pretty good for a private dinner.The music is not loud and it is consisting mainly of early 20th century romanian songs(very beautyfull).The prices, however, are a bit high compared to other restaurants in Bucharest.
