We took an exploratory trip here a couple of months ago and were bowled-over by what greeted us!! It's astonishing!! So much to see do, food, drinks, walks and more countryside than you can shake a stick at. We liked it so much we immediately bought annual membership, which brings its own benefits, far too many to go into on this platform, they're website is WAY more informative. I can't comment on the rooms or servi... View all feedback.
Oh dear, what is happening at the Newt. Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely place to visit BUT: had breakfast in the Garden Cafe and service was shocking. First the croissant didn’t arrive so asked for that, then the extra bacon with French toast didn’t arrive and had to go and ask for that, then second coffee didn’t arrive and had to go and ask for that. When you consider the bill for very little was £40 plus for two I don’t really expect this and certainly with no apology . After the Roman Villa and a lovely walk we went to the open terrace for a cold drink. What could go wrong? Well, let’s just say 25 mins in relatively small queue with two people taking orders . Snails pace doesn’t begin to describe how people are served . On top of this, at 1:15 when people want lunch things they seem to run out of soooooo much. When eventually asking for my two cold drinks, the server walked off to help a colleague on the till for several minutes without one word of communication. So, whilst the Newt is lovely, take your own packed lunch and drinks as you’ll be waiting a crazy amount of time. The Newt; seriously this needs to be addressed.
Limited menu and very slow and innatentive service. Could not recommend Service: 2 Location: 4
A flying visit but a brilliant day out and a definitely a return visit is planned for the next time I’m down that way. Nearby activities: Lots of lovely surprises around every corner for all the family.. A history of farming and the cider making process and also a working cider press, Beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a mixed deer park with a few tea stops. Tucked away next to the deer is an authentic Roman dig with a beautiful reconstruction of a Roman villa you can walk around . To name but a few all worth a visit Walkability: Well maintained layout with good pathways suitable for buggy’s and wheel chairs, the occasional well stocked cafeteria with seats and other facilities for the less mobile. Food drinks: Food was delicious well prepared a presented and exceptional service. Noteworthy details: A brilliant day out and definitely worth a return visit for the next time we are down that way.
Really enjoyable visit. Wide variety of foods and drinks made on site. Beautiful gardens and lovely place to spend a few hours. Service: 5 Location: 5
My wife's birthday meal is be a regular occurrence here this year postponed from June a superb meal followed by a nice stroll round the gardens. We were lucky enough to have our daughter and her boyfriend with us this year. Shame the lunch menu was fixed price rather that a lá carte, and missed the oysters of last year! The only fly in the ointment was bar service. If I'm paying £6 for a can of Quantock Ale, I rather expect the full can rather than a glass I did comment at the time but it didn't seem to register. Other than that, fantastic as usual.
