Popped in after visiting the D H Lawrence museum. Very accommodating staff I wanted soya milk and it was not a problem. Green tea, coffees, toasted teacake and scone was consumed. Fresh and refreshing. View all feedback.
What Elizabeth11031959 doesn't like about The White Peacock:
Tea room opposite D H Lawrence's birth place. Don't be too put off be the cafe's decor. It's certainly eclectic and of a style but the Pot of tea was excellent and home made cakes were tasty. View all feedback.
A small but very busy cafe/coffee shop serving a large range of freshly prepared meals and snacks. Most customers seemed to be locals who knew each other and were obviously regulars which gives a good indication of the quality and value. In addition to the table service food the cafe also had a quirky range of artifacts available for sale as displayed on the walls and in a glass cabinet as well as some delicious looking home made cakes.
I chose this restaurant for my hen do lunch with friends. We all had a great time and enjoyed the venue, food, service, and table decorations, including balloons which I then took around Eastwood. The prices were reasonable and my friends from far away were impressed. It was the perfect start to the celebrations. I will definitely be back.

I stopped by this restaurant in Derby for lunch before going on the DH Lawrence tour. It's not exactly a tea room, but it offers a wide variety of food including breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. The staff is friendly and it seems to be a popular spot for locals to meet up. The building is old, as is the DH Lawrence museum across the street, which unfortunately makes the restrooms difficult to access as they are only reachable by a steep flight of stairs, making it challenging for those with mobility issues. I am unsure if there is a disabled toilet available.
Situated opposite the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum, we visited after seeing the museum. Named after Lawrence’s first published novel the Cafe is as much of gem as the museum. Warm, welcoming and quirky. The staff are a delight. The menu is extensive and full of good old fashioned British dishes. Excellent meals and superb prices. Has a nostalgic feel of visiting a relative who fed you up with substantial, tasty food when you were a nipper. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
