We popped into The Sun on Bank Holiday Saturday lunchtime, 5 adults, 1 child and a baby. No booking. There were 2 functions. We were seated promptly, served impeccably, the food and drinks were excellent. The manager was alert, on top of everything and the server of our table was efficient and extremely polite. We came away really impressed.
This was a flying visit for Sunday lunch while passing through the town and we were well impressed. Really good choices across the menu, happy smiley service, prompt delivery of food and drinks. The chicken menu is a speciality but other meats are available, the gammon meal was excellent. Didn't have time to linger but will visit again.
We booked the function area for drinks and food for 30 people after a funeral and we were not disappointed, a big thank you to Hannah and the team you are all amazing, definitely 5 Stars for the welcoming, service, food and drinks. Nothing was too much trouble, Thank you once again Karen Paul x
Great local within walking distance. Good all round venue; nice decor, good menu selection, attentive staff and food served on hot plates.
Great service by ellie ? , very friendly. food was good with not too much of a wait. hope to return again soon
The Sun offers a charming atmosphere, complemented by attentive staff and excellent service. Guests appreciate the warm welcome and knowledgeable recommendations from the team, particularly when it comes to the Sunday roast, which has received high praise. However, some diners have expressed disappointment with certain food offerings, particularly in buffet settings, calling them uninspired or lacking in variety. While the pub boasts a lovely setting and ample parking, the loud music has been noted as a drawback, making conversation challenging. Overall, The Sun delivers a pleasant, albeit inconsistent dining experience worth considering.

Who knew what a little goldmine we have on our doorstep. I’ve lived in the area for 52 years and never been in. A friend suggested we meet there. To my surprise it was lovely! Hannah, the assistant manager made us extremely welcome and made some good suggestions of what to eat, where to sit etc. the chef advised us on the best choice for what we picked to eat. Steak sandwich but have it lightly toasted) The food was lovely. Hannah was very helpful and it was pretty busy with a real mix of clientele. I felt very welcome. Plenty of space between tables. We weren’t rushed. Hannah also told us about the fabulous Sunday lunch they offer so will be booking in for a meal soon. The menu has a lovely balance d plenty to choose from. Try not to be put off by the slightly dull exterior or the reputation from the late 80’s early 90’s the pub is completely different now. I’m disappointed in myself for not having visited before. Well done. You deserve the 5 stars. Darrian Vickie
Booked a function pack in the front room for a family get together. Service from first point of contact through to the event was excellent. Food on the evening was lovely and plenty of it (sausage rolls in particular get a shout out). Management and staff great and work very hard. I would happily book future events here! Thank you
Great pub run well but music definitely to loud don’t get it sit at a table music belting out went in there with olds really struggled to hear each other and pub was quiet , went there again yesterday log burner had a candle in it 5 degrees outside should be used as an attraction again music to loud . Suggestion ask customers if the music is louder than needed , background is good overwhelming a conversation is most definitely not
Good lunch in this pub. I had the rotisserie chicken with chips and coleslaw. Chicken was excellent tasty, perfectly cooked and a good size. Chips were good. Coleslaw was dry but I improved it by adding mayonnaise. Cluckless burger went down well too. Oil and bread dips starter was shared. OK without being outstanding. Bread arrived warm which was good. Friendly service although she did not know what the soup of the day was. Why not? Shouldn't this information be imparted at service? A drink each and total bill including tip was £45. Cards accepted.
Hannah and the Team could not have been more welcoming Lovely food in a relaxed atmosphere. So pleased that our local has improved hugely and is now our ‘go to place’ when we need somebody else to cook after a stressful day.

Fantastic staff and the pub is very beautiful and big. I was particularly happy with a young man behind the bar. I asked him a lot to pair my around with a mixer. he was full of knowledge and so polite and helpful. he made me feel so welcome. he showed that he was the most friendly and friendly behind the bar. I'm very glad I was served by him. he did my day!
Lunch buffet for dad's wake was perfect. Delicious food and lovely area set aside for us all. Staff were friendly and attentive
Beautiful place and beautiful staff. like really nice staff. I ordered the herbal curry, some of the kartoffels was cold and some of the kartoffels was hot, so that fun I was also really dissimilar package rice if I knew that it would be package rice, I would not order it. my partner really enjoyed his meal, so it only has to be what I ordered. I'll definitely get this place another time than his so beautiful pub, but I think I'll go for a pub classic next time.

I was thrilled to find multiple vegan options on the menu at this restaurant. I tried the signature health kick salad, spring vegetable risotto, and beetroot mint coriander burger, all of which were delicious. I was also delighted to see two vegan dessert options, the Cookie Butter Cheesecake and Raspberry and Lemon Cheesecake, both served with vegan ice cream. It was refreshing to have such a variety of choices available. Overall, I had a wonderful lunch and would highly recommend this restaurant.
