What cojd doesn't like about China Star:
Make sure to double-check your bill when dining at this restaurant. We noticed that they added extra drinks on our tab without itemizing them, making it difficult to identify the overcharge. This has happened to us on two separate occasions, leading us to believe it was intentional rather than an error. Additionally, when splitting the bill, they added extra charges, despite us specifying how much we wanted to pay. T... View all feedback.
I’ve visited China star many times over the past 10-12 years and although I’ve always found them ok they’ve never been hugely accommodating but the food was always good so I continued to go back! That was until we visited earlier this month, the service was the usual standoffish service, but the chicken was pink inside on one of our starters, I called the waitress to tell her who then took it away, the manager approached a few minutes later and told me it was cooked plenty and he didn’t know ‘what my problem was’ I told him it was pink inside and I was pregnant so couldn’t risk eating anything undercooked! He was rude, didn’t apologise and made a situation which I would have written off as just bad luck in to a much worse situation! I most certainly will not be visiting again!
Booked up for Christmas eve, it wasnt very busy when we got there, we sat in the alcove at the front. We got there at 8.00 p.m but were not told the kitchen was closing at 10.00 p.m. as the chef had to get a bus home. We ordered our starters which were nice but very small portions, then we wanted to wait for our crispy duck but they bought it sooner than we wanted it, then they came and told us about the kitchen closing so we had to order our main course straight away. By then the restaurant was near enough empty and the staff started clearing away and laying tables around us, which we were not impressed with. The price had gone up to 21.95 per person for the Christmas period 10% service charge so it cost us nearly £40 including drinks each. The food was nice but we felt very uneasy as if they just wanted us to go home which as it was Christmas eve we expected a better atmosphere. I think they have priced themselves out now as we have been here on Christmas eve before and it has always been really busy. Hopefully when the new chinese restaurant opens things will change as they will lose custom
Lovely menu, delivered in a reasonable time, good selection and well priced would recommend to others good value meal
Had family down who fancied an eat in Chinese. Been to this restaurant on many occasions. Food is always perfect. Great choice on menu and great value for money. Just want to say that the staff were completely different from any other visit. Chatty/friendly/attentive. Thank you your service has ensure we will visit again soon.
We visited midweek, a party of 10 seated at the round table, and the service and welcome was excellent. Food portions can be small but that’s ideal if you’re trying something new and don’t like it. You can order any food from the main menu for a fixed price (there is a separate dessert menu not included) and if you would like another portion, just ask we had 2 servings of crispy duck and pancakes! Food is freshly cooked so they can modify dishes too.
