Roots - Broomfield
Roots
Description
Nestled in a former Masonic lodge, this eclectic eatery aims to impress with its vibrant tapas menu and intriguing atmosphere. While the décor evokes a country club vibe, patrons have experienced inconsistencies in service and food quality, particularly with vegan options. Many dishes, like the Brussels sprouts and Sweet Potato Gnocchi, receive high praise, but issues such as long wait times and incorrect orders overshadow the dining experience. Despite these drawbacks, attentive service and a diverse menu make it a neighborhood gem worth a visit, particularly for those looking for a quiet yet charming setting.

My partner and I visited Roots just a week after it opened. Our server, Lilly, was very attentive to our food allergies. The restaurant has a wide selection of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options, which made it easy for us to find several dishes to enjoy. We ordered sweet potato fries, crispy Brussels sprouts, chimichurri steak, and gnocchi with romanesco sauce. We savored every bite and had a wonderful dining experience. We’re looking forward to coming back soon to try more of their menu!
Incredible! They worked with our budget and provided a fantastic experience. We started off considering a more budget-friendly catering option for a casual dining event, but Kimberly convinced me to choose her services, and I'm so glad I did! Kimberly and her team not only stayed within our budget, but they also exceeded our expectations. The food received a ton of praise. Thank you, Kimberly and your team, for everything!
This is truly the best food I've ever eaten! The staff were incredibly friendly. Lilly made some fantastic recommendations, particularly the Sweet Potato Gnocchi and Devils on Horseback dates, which were absolutely amazing! The owners also stopped by to make sure we were having a pleasant dining experience. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant often!
Roots is an interesting restaurant located in a former Masonic lodge in the middle of a neighborhood, giving off a somewhat country club vibe. The food is served as small plates in a tapas style, and we mostly treated each dish as its own course. The dishes are brought out ready, but not in a specific order, which made it easier to coordinate and kept things fresh, though it did make the service a bit chaotic. Overall, the ambitious menu offers good food. My parmesan truffle fries were flavorful but not very fresh, and the lamb vindaloo had great flavor but was somewhat dry. The Korean beef tacos, Brussels sprout Caesar salad, and mushroom leek grilled cheese sandwich were all well-liked. The dessert menu had a nice variety, with the vegan death by chocolate cake and bread pudding receiving high praise. The cocktail, beer, and wine selection was decent, although some wines were unavailable. Overall, it was a decent, if somewhat pricey, dinner. We will most likely return.
My husband and I dined at Roots on a weeknight and were surprised to find we were the only customers there for the entire evening. The service was lacking; the waitstaff only checked on us when delivering food, and we had to request more water ourselves. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. My husband ordered various meat dishes, while I opted for vegan options, and we also shared a few vegan plates. We were both left feeling underwhelmed. The menu at Roots seemed similar to that of other popular Denver restaurants, but the dishes fell short in flavor, quality, and creativity. While the house-made hummus and Brussels sprouts were acceptable, we were disappointed by the heavy use of deep-fried items among the vegan selections. The desserts were a letdown as well, with the chocolate cake tasting freezer-burned and the Swedish cheesecake lacking flavor. Overall, we felt we spent too much for a mediocre meal and are unlikely to return.
