The food here is fantastic and incredibly reasonably priced! I really enjoyed the meatloaf and yams. My friend from Europe also loved his meal. It's a perfect spot to introduce him to a slice of US culture away from the touristy areas of NYC. View all feedback.
What Elle Bea doesn't like about Ma-n-pop Soul Food:
The food I ordered was not bad, but it wasn't great either, and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I definitely won't be ordering this combination again. The turkey wings were dry and needed more seasoning, the salmon croquettes were too salty, and the collard greens were tasteless. On the bright side, I absolutely loved the decor; the restaurant is super cute and has a cozy vibe. If the food were better, I woul... View all feedback.
I had a craving for wings but didn’t want to cook so I search for beef ribs and came across this spot. I enjoyed the meal, it came with 2 sides candied yams and Mac n cheese) plus I ordered lemonade n chocolate. Candied yams were a perfect amount of sweet. Cornbread was pretty good just a lil dry
Although a small space it was very comfortable for myself, wife, and two children. The atmosphere was very reminiscent of Martha's from Cooley High. The images of historical figures was highly appreciated and the music was spot on to the era given off by the atmosphere. The food was TOP NOTCH, definitely going to go back here when looking for some good soul food!
I had a mixed bag experience. The service was great very friendly and kind. The wait for the food was pretty long (and even longer for a man who called ahead for food). The two dine in chairs were both broken. The pork chop dinner (with mashedpotatoes, yams, and cornbread) was alright but not necessarily great. They DO accept credit cards (despite a cash only sign). Iwould be curious to try their breakfast selections.
Finally got food 55 mins after ordering and it's very good. Original 1 star review: lady working behind the counter tells me it's gonna be 30 more minutes after I've already waited 20 mins, and I need to wait outside? Even tho there's no line ornothing? Not even busy in there.. why u ask a customer to go wait outside in the july heat?
I'm not sure where to start. The food had absolutely no flavor, the containers were not closed so food spilled in the bag. As a southerner, I would never order soul food from here again. The only thing that had flavor was the Mac and cheese, overall, the food was not enjoyable.
