What User doesn't like about Le Succulent:
We had possibly the worst service I have experienced in memory. There was only one waiter and one person in the kitchen and there were several tables of people, all of whom waited forever for their food. It took 2 HOURS for 2 of the 4 main courses to arrive. They were trying but they just couldn’t do what was necessary to run a restaurant. View all feedback.
After looking forward to trying this spot for months based on the excellent reviews, my partner and I were turned away for ordering one instead of two plates of food. We were told by the owner “this isn’t fast food” and that it was “not worth it” for he and his wife to serve us a single plate, because (in an empty restaurant) we were taking up the space of two people but ordering one dish. I have lived in the neighborhood for years as well as dined around the world with some of the best and most respectable chefs and restauranteurs and have NEVER once felt compelled to write a bad review until now. I tried my best to speak to the owner and his wife to come to some sort of human understanding about why they refused service and despite explaining calmly that we had small appetites and simply wanted to share a dish in hopes of returning for more in the future, was only given the same explanation. We were simply not hungry enough to order more, and there was no disclaimer on the menu that every guest needed to order a single dish to obtain service. I unfortunately left having entirely lost my appetite which is the worst impression of a restaurant I can imagine. I am incredibly sad to say I will never return, nor recommend this “soul food” to another soul. There are better and far more hospitable ways to spend your money in Brooklyn.
Such a wonderful gem! Food was full of flavor and the ambiance was romantic but approachable. There was no rush to leave so you could spend the time to enjoy your company and the food.Food: 5/5
After several visits over a year I can say that this is absolutely not to be missed. I have spent years in Paris and even dined professionally and find that the care and talent shown by this chef (wife partner; husband does the front room and service) is extraordinary and consistent. Menu is small but wonderful. Innovative/fusion/French/hint of African. This means a piece of cod that practically floats off the plate with unidentifiable but exciting seasoning and carrots that melt (Chebu Jen, African accents); a chocolate cake that we talked about for a year after, an Apple tart (huge portion) with rich vanilla ice cream classic French, that. Full wine selection. Reasonable prices, lovely room, great location. Fancy food with informal atmosphere (no dress code, for sure). Chat with the chef when done she's got a wonderfully friendly take on things, a very enthusiastic conversationalist. We love the place.
First time visiting this black-owned establishment. The Owner and chef greeted us personally before returning to the kitchen to prepare our our. The food was spectacular. Every course was more delicious than the last. The pork belly appetizer melts in your mouth, and the fish entree was extremely flavorful. Looking forward to coming back to try the Pork Chop. Highly recommend
I came to this restaurant with a group of 7 people for a Suit and Steak guys night out. The ambiance was amazing. I got the Pork Belly and the beignets as an appetizer. And then the Sea Bass as my entree and crème brûlée as a dessert. The food was amazing. The service was great. Complements to the chef for her amazing art work and craft.
