One of the few places in NYC where you can sample food from Guinea! It's definitely worth making the trip to the Bronx to enjoy Jalloh's extensive buffet, where the variety is matched by the depth of flavor. The food is consistently high quality (fresh, not overly greasy or salty), even at 11:30 PM when I visited. I especially loved the Dhapa et Folêrê, a Guinean grits dish made with fresh, fragrant corn that has an incredibly varied texture. You can pair the folêrê with dishes like bourakhé (cassava leaves stewed in palm oil and smoked fish), which creates a delightful contrast between the smoky and spicy stew and the earthy, mellow flavors of the grits. If you're in the mood for something smooth and silky, the maffi gumbo goes perfectly with the grits. The options here are endless!
This restaurant is open 24 hours and serves West African cuisine. The peanut butter sauce is delicious, and the dish made with potatoes, palm oil, and smoked fish is outstanding. Additionally, the grilled lamb served with salad or plantains is a must-try.
