Gr8! Small menu, but it's hard to go past the omlette/coffee combo for $10. A one-man operation run very efficiently. Count me as a fan and I look forward to my next visit.
KGB Express - Brisbane CBD. Upon see this place open for quite a few months, I have no idea why until now that the space was not utilised beforehand. On the entrance to the King George Square Bus Station - facing King George Square - is a tiny kitchen that serves up Genovese coffee and to go with the coffee, a range of sweets, salads and sandwiches. Here is the gold star, those aforementioned items are all freshly prepared and made; yep, none of the familiar white bread, pre-packaged bland sandwiches are here. Think a good old crusty roll and there you have it. The placement is perfect for people coming from a certain direction. After getting out at the concerned stop and the right side of the street, KGB Express is practically the first thing that they see of the city. For any un-caffeinated office workers, they must be really thankful. The main idea is grab it and go, however the staff at KGB have been kind and set out a number of cushions in case the customers decide to stay put for a few minutes. For me when I went here, it was mid-afternoon and I had not eaten anything since that day's breakfast. I had a busy course nearby in Spring Hill and thought I should have something little and substantial. Couple that with my intentions to try this place many times during trips previously into the city, I made a beeline for here. They were really kind, as there was a short amount of time until closing shop and they were more than willing to take an order. I got one of their baguettes to eat: the Louisiana baked bean baguette. Think slowly stewed Bortolli beans, cooked with garlic, onion and pasatta with a sauce consisting of Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, treacle and hickory smoke. This is as good as it sounded, especially with the extras of cheese and cracked black pepper. The combined ingredients in the bean mixture were complex and diverse and were easy to detect. Finishing it off was a slight buttery texture in the baguette which complimented it well. I had a double-shot cappuccino (a.k.a. medium sized) to go with it which was also good. It had a great flavour that lingered for long enough on the tongue and was smooth in texture. This was a great way to compliment the meal. One last gold star for this place is their Eco-conciousness. The takeaway cups are made from a decomposable material and can even be used to grow small plants. They wish to run the business in a green manner. So, for either lunch on the go or, by godsend, a pre-work pick-me-up this place has its niche in a busy market. I wish these guys well and they shall see more commuters become regulars.
