Stopped by to pick up a takeaway as my partner had been before and said it was good. We were not disappointed. We had to wait as they were busy but they gave us pots of food to taste, a nice touch and it was lovely. I had the veg curry rice n' peas and my partner had jerk chicken rice n' peas, dumplings and coleslaw. Food was amazing. Really tasty and filling. I can't wait to go back as I really enjoyed it. I'm told... View all feedback.
What PeteW921 doesn't like about Back-a-yard:
Went here and got jerk chicken and rice because they ran out of curry mutton. I got presented with some kind of children’s boneless box meal of dry break in a spineless jerk sauce. A real disappointment. Worse still, I suspect it’s because the chef on the day had the notion, ‘white people don’t do bones’ stop embarrassing yourself and ask in future. My other half is Jamaican I thought I’d come check it out and see if... View all feedback.
Sorry to state this place has gone the cook is still producing meals for a local pub on Fridays the building is shut up and being prepared to be knocked down
I loooove this place! Me and my friends used to sit out the back in the summer when he had the garden and chat and listen to vinyls, eating delicious jerk chicken, dumplings and prawns. The guy is clearly passionate about his food, and he’s always really friendly and smiley. He makes a delicious jerk dipping sauce which goes really well with the dumplings. This place is great for some wholesome, tasty food that’s been made with love.
Was going to get Chinese but that take out was shut. Walked further up the road and the owner operator (Roy? was so lovely i had to stop and check out his food. Asking for vegan he has a wide choice. Eating it all at home the food was great. Right amount of spice and tasty. Roy may be moving premises soon. I will make sure to know where he is for fine food
My eldest has finally left uni. Her last supper in Brighton before we set off for London was the jerk chicken from Back A Yard. She wanted something tasty and filing. We had the BBQ Jerk Chicken with rice and peas. Absolutely delicious. Some salad, coleslaw and hot sauce. The dumplings are amazing with the hot sauce. Very helpful guy there. Really friendly. Needed an allen key to take down a bed frame and lent one to me. Thank you so much. You deserve all the success in the world. Keep up the hard work. Drove past finally at 10.45pm and the place was still open. This is not a sit in restaurant.
