Century Bakery - Bridgeton
Century Bakery
Description
Longstanding neighborhood bakery remains beloved for exceptional donuts, celebratory cakes and an old‑fashioned, nostalgic atmosphere—fluffy, flavorful pastries, generous portions and reliable custom cakes impress. Patrons praise punctual delivery, careful packaging and reasonable prices. However, consistency has slipped under new ownership: customers report stale or underfilled pastries, ordering and pickup problems, inattentive service and occasional hygiene concerns. For casual treats and event cakes this bakery still shines, but expect variable quality and intermittent service hiccups.

The doughnuts are pretty good. They are a bit dense but the flavor is good! The staff are nice and the service is usually pretty quick.
Everything is delicious at Century Bakery, dounuts and cakes are delicious too. I like CB
We have been going to Century Bakery for over 40 years but the last couple of years has been horrible. Cakes, cupcakes and donuts are never fresh always staled. Employees are unfriendly, the bakery is dirty the Ernest family must be disappointed how the bakery is being ran now.
I have to share my disappointment, which is why I'm giving this place a three-star review: they NEVER have the fried donuts. During my last four visits over the past few months (and I live 45 minutes away), they've consistently been out of fried donuts. It's incredibly frustrating. If you're famous for a particular item and actively advertise it, you should have enough stock to meet customer demand. I could understand if I arrived close to closing time, but I've been there three to five hours before they close, only to be told, “I’m sorry, we don’t have any left.” My usual response is disbelief: “You don’t close for another three hours—how can you be out already?” I’m then told I can place an order and come back another day, but honestly, I don’t want to have to do that. As a former local and restaurant manager, it surprises me that they don't maintain sufficient stock of this popular item. If you're going to promote something, you need to anticipate greater demand and adjust accordingly to ensure you have enough to satisfy your customers, especially for something people come specifically for. Unfortunately, I keep leaving feeling frustrated, disappointed, and empty-handed.
We have been regulars at Century Bakery for over 40 years, but our recent experiences have been disappointing. The cakes, cupcakes, and donuts frequently taste stale and lack freshness. Additionally, the staff members are unfriendly, and the bakery itself is in need of better upkeep. I believe the Ernest family would be disheartened to see the current state of management at the bakery.
