Description

Set to lively Caribbean beats, this popular spot pairs bold island flavors—ackee & saltfish empanadas, oxtail, coconut shrimp and grilled salmon—with weekend DJs and brunch dance parties. Cocktails are potent and bottomless mimosas run on Saturdays, making it a favorite for birthdays and large groups. Experiences vary: many praise the food and vibes, while others report slow service, inconsistent dishes and occasional staff rudeness. Expect a vibrant, secure scene and an eclectic menu that can be hit-or-miss.

A group of 17 of us restaurant hop all over CT once or twice a month depending on whose birthday it is and I can confidently say this is one of the best restaurants we have been to. Service 5 out 5, food 5 out of 5, atmosphere 5 out of 5, Dj and music 5 out of 5. We had a great time last night. We ordered pretty much everything they had on the menu and we were not disappointed. I lost my purse and when I called a very nice gentleman answered and told me to come back to the restaurant he would be more than happy to help me look for it. I went there and they already found it. So grateful! Don't know why this is only rated 3.9 stars for reviews. We had no issues with the metal detector, that's for safety. But go and experience it for yourself!!

The food was good. The best salmon I’ve had. I had the grilled salmon. We went for a birthday surprise planned by my fiancé. Experience was great. One draw back from the 5 stars however was that we were rushed. The meals took a long time to come out, and the menu wasn’t what was promised, but what we did have was great.I’d go back but earlier next time so we can take our time and enjoy this fine establishment.

Short version of my visit.I came here to celebrate a birthday with a family member and her friends. This place does a brunch dance party which is a fun idea. The music was ok but this was just an overall horrible experience. The waitress was beyond rude. The food was definitely not authentic. The food looks better in the pictures then it tasted. I will not be coming back!Longer version of my visit.Firstly the watress gave a person at my table my sprite which was in a can. When I told her I didn 't get my sprite she brought me a glass of ice and a clear liquid. I complained about the sprite and was told it was really sprite but when I pressed more I was given a can of sprite which, surprise tasted like sprite! I have made and eaten plenty of j chicken and believe me when I say their version of j chicken is baked chicken with A1 sauce. Just overall not good. Many people at the table did not like their food but didnt want to complain. I am not one of those people!I spoke with the waitress and she just walked away after our conversation (very rude) She then came back and said, sorry the food isnt up to your par her exact words. She took away my plate, which I had taken 1 bite of the chicken. She came back and said unfortunately we are going to have to charge you for the j chicken. Im thinking huh??? I didn 't eat it and you took the entire plate away. Then she says I could get something else which to avoid an argument I did. I got the Rasta pasta which was just chicken Alfredo. Not a hint of Caribbean flavor to it at all. When I asked for a bag for my food, I was told there were no more bags. While i 'm exiting I see severeal people with bags! This experience was NOT acceptable! I will not be coming back to this establishment!

The vibe here at this BLACK OWNDER ESTABLISHMENT is AMAZING Very late review as I came here December of last year, so I apologize. I do venue and food reviews for work and am a bit behind as the winter/new year season is always busy with events (I use the slower spring months to catch up).I came here for dinner December 21st, 2021 and the DJ was great, although the music is definitely too loud (we could barely have a conversation and, if I recall correctly, the party portion of the evening wasn’t due to start yet). The decor was very nice, a blend of vintage modern and whimsical accents like their swing chairs and yellow fairy lights. Very Instagram photo ready. The portion sizes here are huge and the other patrons there were lit, very friendly, and drama free. The hospitality of the waitstaff and owner was everything you need and want when you’re spending your money somewhereEverything (the silverware, glassware, etc) was clean and well taken care of.I felt safe and welcomed in this atmosphere and ultimately had a great time, but my criticism is as followed:Although the food was delicious, it was hard to thoroughly enjoy the salad. I don’t remember the name of it but it was way too overdressed with their vinaigrette. The pasta was great, but would have been phenomenal with much less oil (I could taste it and see it pooling at the bottom of the bowl). I also felt like it was missing something as far as seasoning goes, but it could just be that the oil was too overpowering. The pasta reheated well, the salmon was still tender, but, of course, the dish released even more oil which made it look very unappealing.Overall, this IS a spot to have in your list of go-to’sI’ve been back since my initial experience and haven’t regretted it. Just keep in mind that the dance floor (which is really the enclosed bar area) is very small, but you can still have an amazing time here at grill2
