Whilst wandering around the beautiful city of Braga, wife and I chanced upon O Fiiho da Māe. It was a few minutes before lunchtime opening, so, because it looked like the kind of place we like, we had another quick wander. Arriving a few minutes later we were greeted warmly and given a choice of tables. Our waiter was friendly, spoke English way more fluently than any Portuguese I can attempt, and explained the concept of the menu eloquently. We ordered a glass of rosé and a wheat beer. Homemade, slow fermented bread with sun dried tomato paste and pistachio butter was brought to the table along with our 1st choice of burrata served with pesto oil. We had ordered cured bass and pork belly to share. They arrived at our table just when required. Both were delicious. Stunning lunch. The staff even made time to have a discussion about the lights in our home kitchen and winter weather back home in Scotland. Stunning lunch.
Monday night and it was full. I can see why: great Portuguese produce with a South American twist. Immensely good value, imaginative cooking and great wine list. Go to Braga for the great architecture and history and go here for the kind of food most cities would boast about.
Comida maravilhosa e um serviço 5*. Um espaço muito bom tanto para ir em família e com amigos.
A gem! Exceptional service from David, exceptional food. Informal setting outside, more formal inside. Service very high end with great balance between attendance and peace. The food options were innovative and executed really well. Hard to find places with this level of all around quality.
