Good selection of cakes and sandwiches we filled up on a shopping trip which took in the bookstore. Would have like to see fruit as an alternative/as well as cakes and sandwiches to provide some healthy choices without bread etc. Nice quirky chairs and seating and friendly staff. View all feedback.
What 6alanp doesn't like about Waterstones:
I love cafe Waterstones normally I go to them a lot but this one seems to be managed by disinterested teenagers, who think customer service is below them and that they only really work there for a social catch up and how can you not have beans when you advertise beans on toast are these now an inaccessible exotic ingredient ... oh but of course popping to get some more would interrupt your chatter time! .... sorry Wa... All 3 children are big readers so we find a Waterstones anywhere we travel to,the Bournemouth store staff were absolutely ace and very helpful,on my return reviewing receipts I noticed we were given more change,on phoning the store to rectify they recommended paying it forward so that's what we did, with the overpayment amount me and my kids fed the homeless in our town
Usually try to avoid chain cafés, but this one is different. A really comfortable and quiet place to spend an hour, with a coffee and whatever book you just purchased downstairs. There is plenty of seating, including some more comfortable chairs and sofas.
I really like the cafe (as well as the bookshop , situated as it is in the off-the-main-part of Bournemouth Square, in the arcade. The staff are sweet and friendly and I couldn 't fault them at all. Where my big gripe is (and someone I mentioned this to said 'don 't sweat the small stuff ' about the issue but why-oh-why do these seemingly decent cafes (not just this one, but many many in my experience, nowadays completely fail to make a decent cup of tea?? What they do is put one single probably already completely tasteless teabag into a fairly big pot, and what comes out (however much you swirl it around desperately is basically as flavoursome as dishwater. Apparently (according to the really nice young lady there other people have made the same comment, and she 's powerless to do anything as it 's the policy from above. I hope they 'll let me have the teabag in a cup in future (which I hadn 't thought of asking for, as when I go somewhere new I get this hopeful feeling that finally I 'll get a decent cup of tea, like the ones I make for myself at home with the cheap supermarket teabags haha!! . My theory is that this is a symptom of the general malaise in society and the downfall of civilisation. End of gripe.
Tuesday 14th September 2021 The quality of the Mocha I had was good . I asked for it extra hot and I got extra hot . My wife had hot chocolate and she too got what she asked for . The lady serving us was polite . My only criticism , and it's not really a criticism is I felt the decor looked dated and tired . The furnishings could do with being broad into the 21st century . If the decor had been upto the quality of the coffee , I would have given 5 stars , but because of the decor I only scored it a 4 .
What a lovely place to relax in the town centre. We enjoyed delicious coffees, shared an almond croissant, sat back in comfy chairs and chilled out.Good value, spacious, delightful activity area for children, book themed naturally, plenty of choice for cake and drinks. Very nice.
