Kenji Japanese Dining Camberwell

The food is fresh, well cooked and consistent here. Service is quick and well presented. Helpings are not huge, but its a great place which always seems to be full. BYO.

This place is owned by japanese, unlike most japanese restaurants in melbourne which are actually run by Chinese. However quality of food is poor. My bento box was all luke warm obviously precooked and just assembled together like food court asian plated. The rice was mushy, too much water. Servings are small too. Eat in menu cost $2 more per item vs takeaway.

We enjoyed some tasty, well presented Japanese food at a very reasonable price. It has a warm and welcoming ambiance with pleasant and helpful staff.

We are locals and used to eat at Kenji at least once a fortnight. For the past year the food quality, serving size and cleanliness has declined dramatically. Quite disappointing.The sashimi quality is a little dubious and once or twice we have left there not feeling quite right in the tummy. I hope they realise their loyal customers are dropping off and up their game because they were considered a real gem amongst locals.

If you can ignore the surrounding then you will find fresh japanese staples at an extremely reasonable price.
