This small cafe is one of East Ivanhoe's hidden gems. Located off the main Lwr Heidelberg Road, East Ivy is the place to go for a quiet coffee with a friend any time of the day other than the busy peak lunch time. Service is quick, the menu is varied and food served is fresh and tasty. Parking is available around the corner where there is a large car park. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about East Ivy:
This place started well when it first opened and we were excited to have a potentially good local venue, however they have just dropped the ball. The menu is tired, they can't keep any consistency in staff, and more often than not there are now more staff there than patrons....and they still forget ordered items over and over again.Waiting 20 mins for a coffee that never turns up...after having done the same thing 30... A very good and quiet cafe in East Ivanhoe. The coffees are quite nice and the cakes are worth a try! Perfect if you want a quiet coffee away from the traffic and noise
We arrived here after running and were welcomed despite our sweatiness! The staff were very friendly and the coffee was served quickly. The food was a bit slow, but it was Sunday morning, brunchtime. When it came it was worth the wait. I had the hotcake, which came covered in an assortment of summer fruit, flowers and puffed grain, with cream and honey. I am a hotcake addict and this was, without doubt, the best I have ever had. An extremely generous serve could probably be shared by two who haven't just exercised. I will definitely be back!
Doing it all well, great food and service at (I think) fairly reasonable prices. Text book perfect smashed avo with salmon. Delish!
We just moved to Ivanhoe a few weeks ago, and are beginning to work our way through all the local spots. East Ivy came highly recommended to us, so we gave it a shot for breakfast on Sunday. First off, the place is BUSY on a Sunday morning. Very busy which is testament to how popular it is, I suppose. When we arrived, we waited to be seated as per the sign on the wall near the door. And we waited. And we waited. Finally, after a solid 5 minutes of standing inside the door we were told sit wherever you like which is cool, but kind of defeats the purpose of waiting to be seated. So we sit. And wait. For at least 15 minutes before somebody arrives to give us menus and take a coffee order. And we wait. Another 15 minutes pass and the same waitress returns to take our food order. At this point, my coffee hasn 't arrived but I can see they 're busy, so I 'm not too concerned. A further 15 minutes tick by, and our food arrived. Still no sign of the long black I ordered, so I mention it to the waitress, who was perfectly apologetic and promised to chase it up. A couple of minutes later, the coffee arrives. More about that in a minute. I ordered Huevos Rancheros which isn 't something I 've seen on the many in many Australian cafes, but is a staple for me when I 'm in North America, and often in the UK too. My partner ordered poached eggs with a couple of sides. I realise that thus far, the review has focused on the negatives but stand by: the food was EXCEPTIONAL. I could not find a single thing to be unhappy about with what I was served (don 't get me wrong, I wasn 't trying to, I 'm not that kind of dude). It looked incredible when it arrived to us and it arrived very promptly, especially considering how busy the cafe was and everything on the plate belonged on the plate. It was utterly delicious. Now, back to the coffee. So it took forever to arrive. There was a mix up I guess, and that 's ok. These things happen, and I can get over them. What I can 't get over is bad coffee. And the coffee I was served was bad. It was really, really bad. The cup was full to the brim, and there was zero crema two very bad signs for a long black coiffing coffee snob like myself. I drank it, and I can 't give you much more information other than it was disgusting. Maybe if you drink coffee made with milk, East Ivy has a high quality output. But for the purist (my tongue is in my cheek, relax), it was a total disappointment. In summary: Service: Poor, but allowances made for how busy the place was. Coffee: Abominable Food: Exceptional.
Off the main road and well worth the visit! Good ambiance, excellent food and presentation with great service. Fantastic!
