a un col, p'tite inn a priori friendly, pretty map. 19h good weather; We want to have dinner at 2. not possible! We only serve the people of the gite. It's true that at 1200m in a lost corner of the dick, they have at least 1 month's work View all feedback.
We last visited the Auberge des Bornes 9 years ago. Situated in splendid isolation in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by magnificent vistas, whichever way you approach or leave you will have views of awesome splendour in which wildflowers abound. On entering, the interior is sophisticated rustic, the welcome warm. This time we came without a reservation (essential in Summer) and were seated at one of the few remaining free tables. We were proptly given the menu and wine list, service is efficient and although not slow is not rapid either, but who would want to hurry over such a meal? We took 'Chataigne Royale ' as an apperitif (highly recommended) and were given 'gougère au fromage de chevre ' as 'amuse geule '. There are several menus whechbessentiall vary with the number of courses. We chose the €18, four course menu. I had the salad 'maison ' salad with cepes and walnuts as a starter which was a delight. My wife chose an omelette which she claimed the best she had had in years. For our main course we both chose the lamb with green lentils. The quality of the meat was suberb and the 'cuisson ' perfect, moist tender and deliviously flavoured. I chose a Cote du Rhone as a wine, I would have preferred to go lical but I was driving and no local wines were available in half bottles. As a desert we chose the inevitable Coupe Ardechoise, 'crême de marrons et crême Chantilly ', very hard on the calories but Oh so delicious with the Chantilly, the real thing not the aerosol muck. The choices available on the menu are a little restrained but judging by our meal, better to have a slightly limited choice of superlative than a larger selection of the indifferent! Having seen some adverse comments, I firmly believe in one case the review must have been written for another establishment and our welcome was warm and friendly if not effusive. For anyone toyring in the area a visit here will reward you with magnificent scenery and a really superb meal and on leaving a feeling of peaceful wellbeing.
Wonderful food. Produce mostly produced by owner. Butter churned, etc. Great venue high in the mountains.
Very good reception, delicious lunch with home or local products. Very beautiful environment, beautiful terrace we will return
Simple and warm welcome by the field family at 1200 meters altitude, in a pure mountain that deserves. Here, no industrial product in your roasted plate of beef of the tray or the pork confit to the carrot lenses have no equals very far in the round. Random circuits on the spot... or picking jonquilles in the spring allow you to end the day in beauty.
"Thanks a lot for the welcome and taste buds." is my first comment. Home products with charcuterie, meat, mushrooms and ice cream delight us and I hope that this authenticity and culinary truth will continue. We have to test under penalty of passing a reference.
