Cosy bar and restaurant, easygoing. Typical food
When you're at your mom's, you know you can have a good time. It's rustic. It's country dishes to share with friends. It's up to you. Bits to all moms
We had looked this place up before visiting Bordeaux as we were staying in the nearby St. Michel area, so we wanted somewhere close to our apartment. We arrived late at night (around 23:00) and luckily they were still serving food on a Thursday night. I had a bit of sunstroke and was feeling quite ill; unfortunately I am the only one who speaks any French. However, the women in 'Chez ta mere' were so so so lovely! They brought in the menu placards from outside and translated everything in English to my partner. He chose steak and I had tomato farcis; we both had red wine. My partner loves his meat rare, but the women were worried that it would be 'too rare' for an Englishman. It just shows how attentive and kind they were to our needs. We were sat facing the kitchen and watched everything cooked fresh and from scratch! And there was barely a wait! The food was homely and wonderfully tasting. The accompanying rice with my farcis was cooked to perfection! I'm Chinese and grew up eating rice, so I'm very picky when I eat it!!! The bar is cool and plays some amazing music. The welcome and vintage atmosphere is lovely. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time during our trip to return, otherwise we would have loved to come back!!! Especially when our wine and meals came to under 30 euros!
